Somewhere around July of this year I opened an account on coinbase and made a deposit (from a wallet on a cellphone, that I can no longer access) that was meant for a VPN, which I never got around to renting. At the time of the deposit, the coin was worth roughly $100. Not long after I deposited, the value increased, I made a purchase of around $100, and left the remaining coin in the account. After the purchase, there was approximately .06btc remaining, which appreciated up to around $300 at it's peak.

Two weeks ago I found myself in a serious bind and went to withdraw the coin to sell, and there is no coin nor record whatsoever that I ever made a deposit to coinbase, despite having previously monitored the value and charts there for months before this. The coin was MOST DEFINITELY there in the weeks prior to this, as I had been watching it appreciate even though it was never meant to be an investment (thank GxD).

So, because the phone (wallet) that I made the initial deposit from has been lost, I don't have any records of my initial deposit. When I check my coinbase account, they show no records of the wallet that was set up when I deposited. I've made repeated efforts to contact them, but they don't seem to have much of a mechanism for communication. I submit my complaints, but only to receive obviously canned replies. I can't seem to find a direct email or phone contact, what the hell is up with this place?

So has anyone else had coin just disappear from coinbase before? Do I have any recourse here? I have zero evidence that suggests my machine or accounts have been compromised, and although I wasn't using 2FA, I was using a strong password and reasonable opsec, although certainly it can always be stronger.

I guess it's a good thing this wasn't the 10k I nearly invested last year, or any of the money I just inherited that I'd like to invest. Damned skippy any of that money won't be going into a coinbase account, but for now, can anyone suggest any ideas towards helping me recover this .06? I could really use it, I just lost my father and money is extremely tight right now.

Thanks

Run your wallet address through blockexplorer.com and look at the transaction history.

Check the transaction history at coinbase and also as already said, the transaction history of your wallet using a block explorer. Furthermore, you should go through your email history, bank transcation or any other hint, that shows, what happened exactly.

I can't find any evidence that a wallet ever existed for my account -- there's no address or history to explore.

But I'm %110 certain there was about .06 there a month ago.

As others have said, if you've purchased from somewhere like Coinbase you must be able to find some evidence e.g. confirmation email, bank statement. Definitely run your wallet through a blockchain explorer as well to see if that sheds any light. Good luck

Is it possible you have, perhaps inadvertently, created two different accounts over the years, and the account you are logging into on your new device isn't the same account you made the transactions from?  You have to eliminate all possibilities.

If you have a time-critical need for bitcoins, do not use Coinbase. This is a company which has no customer affect or rapport. They will leave you wet and sulking in the rain while they take their own sweet time dealing with your transactions. Sending money to them is super easy but withdrawing is never an instantaneous matter. As I wrote on another thread earlier, it's as if you could sense, smell and feel that they hate to see coins removed from their wallets. Even if you are fully verified and within your account limits.

Bitcoin was envisaged to be money made simple. Instead, it is easier nowadays to do a bank transfer than a buy/sell transaction on most exchanges. They operate almost like any other bank, minus the brick and mortar facade.

I'm sorry for your experience. I hope you will treat this as a lesson and explore other options. Coins do not simply disappear from one's wallet. All this hocus pocus you see on your exchange accounts happens because you have exchanges which are more concerned about revenue retention and their profit figures.

I've thought about this but I can't find anything in any of my other email accounts, all coinbase activity is restricted to one single account.

And I have confirmation emails around the setting up of the account, but I never had any emails that mentioned the deposit or the one transaction I completed. They only simply mention the creation of the account.

By starting this thread I'd hoped to maybe gain an idea of how to contact a real person there. So far my efforts to open up a case on this issue have accomplished exactly squat.

edit: Oh!! I did find something in another account! I may have addresses for blockexplorer, I have some emails to read. Smiley

edit again: found 'em -- it was another obscure email address that I rarely use. I feel like an idiot but at least I found them.

Thanks!
