Surprised there isn't a sticky or list of all the ASIC(and usb stick) manufacturers somewhere. Does this exist somewhere?

The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

Don't forget about the T9 and the R4 from Bitmain. Seems everyone forgets about these nowadays even though the latter is the perfect home miner, albeit with bad quality control.

I think this is the actual problem from Bitmain in all of their products.

In my mind, the perfect home miner won't have rampant failure issues, won't have a 40% markup for the convenience of quiet fans, and will have user-accessible adjustments for core voltage and operating frequency. The last approximately "perfect" home miner was a version of Antminer S3.

Cool, quiet and up to 1TH pod miner, on sale now!

True, but the alternative is a loud-ass miner that isn't meant to be anywhere near a home. It's a shame Bitmain have such a mining hardware monopoly and other companies aren't willing to sell chips nor miners. I definitely misworded that though. Perhaps someone can come up with a less power dense design that doesn't need static pressure to push air through tiny heatsinks like the S9/T9 and is quiet.

I've seen ASIC chips with PCI contacts. Would it be absurd for me to postulate a DIY ASIC miner with a modified OS or some type of special mining software with the PCI ASIC mining chips or does that sound insane? I'm still learning a lot about the ASIC chips and miners

And still learning apparently about electronics in general... Kudos for that but....
Chips do not use contacts like that of any sort -- boards do. Chips either use pins, pads, or balls for contacts.
You talking about the old BFL Monarch-style miner cards? Yes they plugged into PCIe slots but were still actually USB devices.
