How much is the going rate for Blackbytes?  Is this where they could be sold?

Currently I found two options to exchange them
OTC on slack.byteball.org in channel #trading_blackbyte and http://www.iotaexchange.com

Have not find the current price per Blackbyte but you should be able to find it  by these two places.

Do the blackbytes somehow convert into ordinary bytes later on?

Havent find any information about your question, but I think that they are different coins so no, It won't be converted to Bytes, unless you exchange Blackbytes for Bytes.

OK I setup the ByteBall wallet and used the transition bot and got this....

Your current linked Bitcoin address is X

Please make sure that X is indeed your address and move all your coins to this address. You receive 0.00625 GB and 13,194,375 blackbytes for each 1 BTC of the total balance of this Bitcoin address on November 4.

Current balance of this address is .. BTC.

If you are surprised to see .. BTC, learn about change addresses: https://wiki.byteball.org/change-address

For the bytes you hold on November 4 you receive 0.1 new byte for each 1 byte of your balance, even if your bytes are not on linked Byteball addresses.

You also receive 0.21111 blackbytes for each 1 byte of your balance on the linked Byteball address, which currently is:
x

Move your bytes to the linked address in order to maximize the amount of blackbytes you receive.

I am just trying to make sense of bytes vs blackbytes etc

Blackbytes GBB & Bytes GB are separate coins held in the same Byteball wallet. Blackbytes are used for transactions you wish to keep anonymous similar to Monero. You can only trade Blackbytes for regular Bytes via OTC through the Byteballs slack channel. You always need a balance of regular bytes to make transactions with Blackbytes. Join Byteball's slack for the full run down and play around with the wallet bots when you get a chance. Functional flight insurance/gambling is a pretty neat extra.
