Im doing a lot of search in the forum.
Trying to get the best answers to build my own rig.
People say AMD is better than Nvidia for mining.
Someone can help me saying it in the simple way why ?
Dont need put a lot of explication, but something like AMD price is lower, hashrate of amd is better.
This things.
I see ppl normaly use 6 cards too, but have something like with 2 cards you start fine to get profit?
Thanks

Last generation graphic cards of nvidia are competitive to amd's latest ones.Even those nvidia graphic cards perform better in zcash when compared to amd.for ethereum there is really not much difference anymore .. since miners pumped rx 470/570 rx 480/580 price there, both graphic cards prices almost same. i recommend buying nvidia.

AMD card were better when you could purchase them at MSRP, which is <50% of the current market price... other wise, Nvidia cards are always better in all the ways... temperature control, power consumption, noise level, no requirement for customized bios mod, while still can have the comparable results at similar price level
so for now, Nvidia cards are better

AMD has still the lower price compared to Nvidia and Hashrates are almost the same in certain Algo Like Ethash,
of course this will depend on which GPU we are talking about, like for example for RX580 AMD and GTX1070 Nvidia,
they can both do about 28-31 hashrate for ethash but the price difference is around 80$-100$, if you like to Mine other than Ethash I would recommend
nvidia

I would say that typically, NVIDIA cards are better than AMD cards in general (my opinion, please don't destroy my hopes and dreams), but regarding mining, I like AMD cards for the option to BIOS mod them for greater hash rates. NVIDIA doesn't allow for firmware modification so if the two types of cards were to have a mining power showdown that's why I'd pick AMD. If you don't want to learn how to BIOS mod your card, there are plenty of users on multiple forums that would be more than happy to help or have already posted the modded .rom file somewhere and all you need to do is download it. Miningstore.co has some BIOS modded cards for sale but I'm not here to be a sales rep, just here to help out.

It's hard to compare between AMD and NVIDIA, for me I choose GPUs depend on which coin I want to mine, I like ETH and XMR, so I just buy AMD for higher hash rate and even much cheaper than NVIDIA (ROI is better).

AMD card because it has better ROI over nVidia.

It is true, the ROI of AMD is better than nvidia in mining. Especially RX470/480, these 2 models are the best ROI, if you can buy it, as it is always out of stock.

I vote for NVIDIA for more versatile flexible card that goes well with most of algorithm

Have some GPU that are cheap and good profit to start mining ETH or Monero? (look like lot of ppl are going after monero too).

I look into nvidia 1080
GEFORCE GTX 1080 8GB.
Thinking if its good enough start with only one of this and later make upgrades in the machine.
What you guys think ?
Or is better get cheap ones but 3 or 4 of that?

Tight budget, Free space and electricity = AMD Large budget, higher electricity cost and not lots of space = NVIDIA
This is how i see it, i only have AMD due to space and lower cost. But nvidia are very good if you need to save on space and power

Back when Bitcoin and Litecoin dominated the GPU mining scene, AMD cards were the go-to option for dedicated miners. Few people who intended to build mining rigs went out to buy new Nvidia cards. (Some people who already owned them for other purposes tried using them, with mixed results, but generally far worse efficiency in terms of hashrate/PCIe slot and hashes/joule when compared to AMD cards of similar cost.)
Now, you should look at specific hardware for specific algorithms. For example Nvidia cards are generally better with Equihash coins when compared to AMD cards of similar tier/generation/price.
To say that AMD or Nvidia GPUs perform better than the other for mining would be far too general of a statement. Look at specific algorithms, and, just as importantly, the performance of specific hardware on said algorithm(s).

How important is RAM quantity when selecting a video card for mining?
It depends on the algorithm you intend to mine. For ETH, there's a hard cutoff between cards with sufficient graphics RAM to handle the DAG. (Right now, 2GB cards cannot mine ETH without modifications (such as loading the DAG in chunks), and such modifications have no guarantee of working, or of being worth doing. 3GB cards are the minimum.) However, beyond that hard cutoff, generally cards with additional graphics RAM outperform those with less. For example, the 6GB 1060s tend to outperform their 3GB counterparts by about 30% or more. (Cards with additional graphics RAM also tend to have other unrelated differences, such as default clock settings, due to them being considered higher-end cards than those with less graphics RAM.) There are additional considerations, such as the ability of your hardware to overclock. Generally cards with Samsung or Micron memory are superior to those with Hynix chips, but note that overclocking abilities vary unit-by-unit.

Pretty much this. If you want something cheap go GTX1060. If you have more money to spend and electricity prices are on the high side where you live then 1080ti is the way to go. Nothing!! beats it h/w wise.
