The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

Have you downloaded the whole block chain? There should be 13xxxx blocks near the bottom.

If you have, you just have to wait for more confirmations. Should take anywhere from 30min - couple hours.

Also, which version of the Bitcoin client do you use?
Older clients often have problems to connect to the network nowadays.

I'm on 133101, so I'm pretty current, I do have the last iteration of the client, though.

[Edit: Looks like I JUST caught up. I had sent the transactions last night and my computer as on all night, so that's what was so confusing. Must have just been slow blocks?]
