Three days ago I noticed a serious drop in my mining income and went to do some research.
All I could find is this chart showing some huge jump in mining difficulty which explains reduced income.
https://www.coinwarz.com/difficulty-charts/ethereum-difficulty-chart

Initially, I thought that it was connected with the rise of $ but that doesn't cover it.

Does anyone know why did the difficulty increase so much?
When is the block time increase happening?

Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

I will try to explain it as simple as I can , Difficulty bomb is a way to increase the difficulty of mining at a point it will become impossible to keep up with it ( They call it Ice Age ) , Why they doing it ? It is because when casper get implemented ( POS ) there gonna be hard fork and that Ice Age era will prevent people from staying in the original ETH network so basically it is to force people to adopt POS ( casper ) . This is just the simple way to explain it it might not be accurate in term of tech. You should read about it your self  ( Google search real easy ! ) if you want things in details !

it's because ETH was programmed with a diff that increase no matter the hashrate, this will make almost impossible to mine in the future and prepare ETH for pos

i get the difficulty bombs... don't like it, but get it lol.  However, can someone elaborate on the Reward Halving issue?  I thought it was announced 1-2 months ago that this would go into effect on either 10/1 or 11/1... cant remember exactly and can't find anything via google or on the ETH forums.  Did Buterin decide to go the difficulty bomb route in lieu of halving, or are both going to be implemented.

I have continues to mine ETH over the past month+ even though it hasn't been the most profitable, mainly because I believe in it's future and want to gather as many as possible before it completely drops off.  If the halving will still go into effect, that will truly be the end, at least for mining ETH.

I'm also hoping for a price rise on ETC once ETH goes POS.
Plan to start mining it soon

mining difficulty goes higher as the hash power goes high too. therefore the more the miner, higher difficulty. eth mining difficulty spikes because of the sudden increase of numbers of gpu miners. This is very usual to happen, and won't be the last time. It was not the first either... Wink

I use Simplemining OS to manage my rigs. It's easy to use and works well, the only recommendation is that you are close to your rig when doing manual restarts. My nVidia rig got stuck few times when I was testing different coins and miners
