Many things could go wrong between the product itself, the packaging and the shipping to the buyer. In a system that relies on many different parties, who is responsible when problems arise?

It depends on a certain situation, I guess, the problem will the solved where it arises. For example, if there's a delivery problem, it would be solved by the courier company, etc.

Does it mean that responsibility will be either on manufacturer or those centers managed by the third party while INS won't be answerable because it just provided that platform for the participants?

You see, most of the cases will be processed by smart contracts, but if the problem can't be solved by means of smart contracts, we,of course, find out at what stage the problem arose and eliminate it.

Benefit? I don't think so, just the act of goodwill if you're lucky enough

I think if they have enough staff for all these activities it does not matter to them because the problem can be solved in days. I think team should take care of all these activities before proceeding to ship for certain customer by checking twice.

INS will be managing a complex supply chain of manufacturers, third-party vendors, carriers and logistics providers. A blockchain of the transaction, containing order details and negotiated fees and commissions (in the form of smart contracts) will be used to capture documents, delivery and possible return events, and drive financial settlement with fewer opportunities for dispute.

The public-private nature of blockchain records means that each party can make data visible to the others. All parties have visibility into the transaction and no custom interface has to be negotiated between partners (only to/from the blockchain). This will reduce time delays, added costs and human errors, automate inventory control, and streamline fulfillment processes.
