Hello everyone,

i am finalizing the development of a website with the aim of providing fast downloads of the several blockchains.

The site will be managed with several servers and will guarantee a bandwidth of 10 gbps. For each ip address a speed will be provided
maximum download of 100 mbps.

Do you think that all this is useful today? Looking for a web search does not find any similar service that allows you to download
immediately at that speed. The service will obviously be free of charge and will leave it up to the end-user to decide whether to do
a small donation. The service will cost me about $2k per month, but they don't weigh as I use the servers for others
works.

Blockchains will be available for download in zip folders and will be updated every 7 days via automatic scripts.

I am here to ask first of all if the service can be useful, if there was someone expert in the nginx web server on windows.

The site will be called downloadblockchain. org and the available blockchains will be Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Dash and Monero.

Quite the interesting idea. Although I believe we moved away from bootstrap files for a reason, and there have been many advances in chain-syncing since then. Your service could still have a use but I'm not sure if you should spend that much keeping it online.

I think you're confused here... OP is providing free bootstraps, so other people that want to run a full node can use his bootstraps to speed up their sync process. It has nothing to do with hardware wallets.

@OP: if you have specific nginx related questions, you can shoot me a PM. I've never configured nginx on windows before, but i've done plenty of installs on *nix systems, so i might be able to point you into the right direction once in a while Wink.

I think that the better wording is "on this site", not "in this site". I'm not 100% sure though.

But as others said, I'm not sure about the usefulness of this project, since most blockchains are not needed anymore.
The ones that don't need increased safety will use simple (SPV) wallets, the ones that need security may not trust anybody to bootstrap from, will start from scratch, at least in case of Bitcoin.
And you know, less users, much less donations...

Yeah sorry, got confused. if OP is providing free bootstraps i will be a help to people who dont wont to download the wallet and might save some space.
if i am not wrong the whole blockchain will be downloaded to you server , right  ?

Still not completely correct. Think of a bootstrap as a single file containing all blocks up untill a certain point. The OP is providing a fast server where you can download an archive off all blocks up untill last week, so you don't have to download these blocks from your (slower) peers one by one.
He won't save anybody any diskspace. You'd still have to download the bootstrap from his server and store it on your pc. His aim is to save people some time when they initially sync their wallet.
If you want to save diskspace, you can either run a pruned version of the blockchain, or go for an SPV wallet like electrum.

It's a noble initiative from the OP, but like others have pointed out, at this point in time, syncing is reasonably fast... On the other hand if the OP's bootstrap files save a couple hours for a couple hundred people a year, he did some good work  Smiley

Correct. Still, I'm curious on OP's strategy, since, while he said that this will be free and donations based, he also pointed out that it will cost him about 2000$ every month and this means that unless he has the goose with golden eggs, this will not be a long living project...
But I may be missing something, I don't know..
