Hi folks,

I am currently mining musicoin with 8x 1060 plus 2x 650W ATX PSU. I would like to switch to a Server PSU + Breakout Board. These breakout boards come with 10x PCI-E cables currently on eBay.

I want to split one of these PCI-E cables so I can power one card plus one riser, wich I unfortunately bought with molex connector. I searched a lot but didn't find any Y cable with PCI-E plus male molex connectors.

I thought about buying a PCI-E to double PCI-E Y cable and solder one male molex connector by myself to get what I want but I am not sure if this works as there seems to be no 5V at PCI-E and I am not sure if the risers need that.

Any idea appreciated since I am clueless what would be the best to buy right now.

best regards

depends on the risers you've already got, if you have molex only powered ones, those need more than 12v, they also need 3.3v, now if you had the 6 pin pci express risers already youd be golden, best suggestion before switching is to get newer risers with the 6 pin power connector

theres no way around it, you almost have to order new risers, as ive already mentioned the molex only powered risers need more than just 12v to work, which a server psu DOES NOT provide, your still going to have to buy a 160w pico psu so why not order new risers as well, go on ebay you can find them for 30 to 40 bucks for a set of 6 pci express 6 pin powered risers, I only know this because I have some of those older risers before the 6 pin pci express powered risers came out, I use the molex ones explicitly with the atx psu, I have newer risers just for the server psu setups I also have

I am just looking for some new risers since nobody had another idea. however, i am still wondering about how to connect a pico psu with the server psu. I thought i hook this up with molex adapter but now i think this is wrong.

i have another question: im planning to buy this breakout board:

i was wondering if these molex cables from an atx psu would fit?

thx for your advice!
