Hi All,

I just joined the site.  It seems like a pretty good resource and you've been most helpful.  I finally started mining after debating it for years while it went from a buck fifty to over $4k.  I will get straight to the point and post a short list of questions.  I would appreciate your assistance.

My demo setup= FX8350 OC'd, 16GB Corsair 1866MHz RAM, buncha SSDs and M.2 SSD, and my favorite, my EVGA 1070 SC.  At the moment I have an EVGA 600W PSU and tomorrow my Thermaltake 750 arrives.  For more betterness on the OC side.

Just be straight up, tell me if I'm doing something the retarded way i.e. the interface, Win vs Ubuntu vs Mac, etc.  I am learning this thing dammit.

1. I started off with NiceHash Miner 2.0.11 and Bitcoin Core 0.15.0.  I'm pulling in 450 H/s on the Equihash.  Is that decent?  How does H/s translate into MH/s?

2. I want to mine Ethereum.  I got GETH up and going but I haven't seen a decent set of instructions on the language.  Can you please walk me through step by step because the youtube videos suck.  I can get it up and running, but wh. wtf is it doing, where do I enter in my Ethereum wallet ID and all that good stuff?

3. Is Linux more profitable due to less overhead on the GPU?

That's it for now.
Thanks.

If you mine Bitcoin (algo = SHA256) you are doing it wrong. Bitcoin mining is not for GPU in 2017. H/s is 1/1000 MH/s.
Find an altcoin to mine and, if you want to, trade or convert to BTC. ETH, ZEC, XMR may be some candidates, go to altcoin mining section and ask there.
Every coin (more or less) has its algo. So the H/s for one algo is good and for another algo is bad. Use some profitability calculators like whattomine.com
Also if you get H/s for one algo you may get kH/s on another algo... all differ.

Sorry, ETH is one of the few coins I didn't tray to mine. Go to altcoin mining or even on ETH threads and ask there.

3. Is Linux more profitable due to less overhead on the GPU?

Some tell that Linux is better for mining because is more stable and drivers work better. But it's not the only factor.
There's also a Linux based OS for mining, just search around and you'll find it, it may help.

on a side note, don't be lazy this forum has pretty much all the info you need you just have to find it. theres already enough noobs trying to get information handed to them on a silver platter without actually doing any leg work and its just annoying seeing these kinda posts on a daily basis, if people simply LOOKED before posting they would prolly find answers to what they seek, not so sound like an ass but its the truth

1.
Nicehash isn't bad to start with and get a general sense of the performance of your hardware on various algorithms. However, for long-term mining, you will *probably* lose out due to fees. This does not factor in the speculative aspect, which deals with the constantly varying price of coins. If you want automatic payouts in BTC, this might be the route for you, but if you're planning on converting directly to fiat for a while, I'd recommend mining Zcash for yourself through a dedicated Zcash pool, such as Flypool.
*Additionally, Nicehash's equihash miner for Nvidia GPUs is sub-par, in my opinion. Try your luck with the EWBF miner.

2.
I haven't mined ETH much, but I would always encourage you to check profitability on your hardware before putting too much effort into it.

3.
Linux is not inherently more profitable for mining due to "less overhead on the GPU". Additionally, if your motherboard allows for integrated graphics, it's usually easier to use them for the monitor on a Windows 10 system than it is on most Linux distributions. Installing drivers for different GPU architectures (or worse, entirely different manufacturers) such that you can use the iGPU for graphics and the others for mining can be a real pain on Linux. However, Linux does offer many other advantages.

1. Nicehash miner has a little higher fees compared to other miners like EWBF miners. Try download EWBF miner, register to pool sites and start mining.

2. For beginners or light users, you don't really need GETH for ETH mining. It's too space consuming. I recommend some web based ETH wallets like MyEtherWallet or so.
Ethereum mining is same. Download Ethereum miners such as Claymore's or ethminer. Register to ethereum mining pools like Suprnova or MPH, start mining by editing batch file.

3. Linux has no advantage on profitability.

Thank you for your quick responses.  I have been testing different cpu/gpu/onboard/motherboard combos for the highest benchmark scores on NiceHash Miner for the past week.  Also watching youtube and reading articles while doing so.  You get to a point after spending day and night on something and not finding a comprehensive resource for couple of straight forward noob questions, I had to just ask.  I know what you mean about rtfm but sometimes I just gotta ask.  Thank you, I will keep you guys posted.
