My journey started on Sep 21, from Boston to NYC, flight to Egypt then Turkey, back to Boston! Carrying $100 just in case and 3 bitcoins in my wallet!

Fuck If I will ever carry credit card, or cash any more:

1- I used Localbitcoins for cash! Search for best local currency rate!
2- How much I save from credit card fees and Fiat exchanges: $305.
3- Is it save to deal with Localbitcoins in person overseas? Yes, so amazing nice guys, you are making friends Smiley

You should try it! & $100 stayed with me! and I spent less than 1.9 btc in both countries!!!

That was a great experience maybe I would do it also when I accumulate more bitcoin. As of now my focus is to invest and get more bitcoin as possible  as I can.

The currency difference we have with the currency of the country we visit sometimes becomes a burden in itself. First, sometimes we often experience bad luck where the money changer that we visit give the exchange rate / exchange rate is very bad, so it can cut even up to 10% of the value of our currency. Secondly, there are many fake Money Changer who don't have official permission from the government which is certainly risky when we transact there. and one of the advantages of bitcoin is that we can exchange it with any currency that exists in each country with very cheap fee. so we do not have to worry that unpleasant events will happen to us. So I think traveling with bitcoin is worth to try.

Yes its a good feeling that we don't have to be carrying much physical cash again. Our phone or paper wallets can do the job better

Another good story from the traveller with only bitcoin with him. I have seen stories like this on YouTube also where people actually spent whole month on the bitcoin and they tried to buy food, water and rent hotels with only bitcoin. They were successful too.

With your case I can imagine how localbitcoin might helped you through your long journey. But I'm wondering how much time that might have consumed while making the trade and getting the cash. I mean you might have met people in real but with the meetings fixed at specific point and time. That we can not neglect here because it is in general waste of time. Would love to know more detail story. Share us with more motivational incidences you had.

@Ehrhc That is a wonderful experience and an experience i have never heard in this forum from anyone, hope this encourages people to dare and travel around the world with just bitcoin and use local bitcoins to get the necessary exchange in fiat for the trip,i would say it is a daring trip with just $100 fiat in your hand, either way well done and thanks for sharing your experience.

That sounds awesome! Wish I could do the same. I don't know much about 'Localbitcoins' so could you tell me more about it? Maybe I could use it the next time I travel and save as much as you did from the exchange rates. You really do lose a lot of money there and credit card fees whenever you travel.

This is pretty inspiring for bitcoin users like me and this could encourage others to use bitcoin as well. It would be such a convenience to able to use bitcoin while traveling because you won't have to go through the hassle of exchanging your fiat money to the local currency all the time.

I think if you asked the opinion of bitcointalk's members, before leaving on your trip, on your idea and what you are going to do all the users will give  you negative answers and you will receive enormously negative waves. But thanks to your courage and your determination you have completed an adventure far from being realizable later.

Listen, this is very cool. I congratulate you and I'm a little jealous. Because I myself swear to go to such a level of income, so that there is nothing to be denied thanks to crypto-currencies. I try to invest in interesting and promising Ico, participate in the bounty. And all this I do only six months, but I already have not bad results. I would like more and faster, sometimes I do not have the patience. Share the secret of success?)

Very inspiring but still unbearable. It is not necessary to spend your bitcoin in that way buddy. I still think that credit card is a necessary thing when you are traveling far away from your country. But, the Bitcoins should be used only when it might be necessary to use it. Most of the credit cards have very low fees and as you mentioned that you used localbitcoins to have exchanged your cash. Then in that case you should also remember that lacalbitcoins users take much higher fees sometimes and thus the loss can be more than you ever thought.

Have you considered a crypto card? I heard the TenX card allows you to withdraw from ATMs in the local currency, but I don't have one and I don't recall seeing any videos of that before. That would be quite useful for as an alternative backup plan to localbitcoins.

Its another card! Why ...When you have people you can meet and exchange? Maybe if it was a country when you can't find someone..sure.

Not at all! First you ask people to come meet you at your hotel lobby! Safety..and There are cams!

Second I just double check the people who are at localbitcoin to see if they are active or not!

Third whole thing didn't consume time, it was the experience itself! So if you add the 30-40 mins in doing research it was worth it!

You are totally right, and I couldn't agree more with you, but it was an adventure, and it was worth it, I would listen to this forum members couple of years ago, but now! NO! Do then share! But don't ask to do.

Many negative trash waste of time people here now.

You guys keep thinking about Localbitcoins as money transfer, bank, western union....Its totally different when its face to face!

You are dealing with international guys, who know the rest of us as stuff they see online! And they are much nicer and helpful.

Forget the asshole who is doing Localbitcoin as his daily income business, and lives in NJ, or Ohio...

I had it with me the cards, but I didn't need it!

That is actually a great feeling. Currently a lot of places are accepting bitcoin as a method of payment, which makes travelling easier if you are willing to use bitcoins.

I think its safe to use localbitcoins in foreign countries, you just have  to ensure that you will be able to access the cash. Exchanging your bitcoins for PayPal might make it easier.

I should also consider travelling with bitcoins at a later stage, surely it might be an awesome experience. Cool
