Just don't plan a trip to germany any time soon. Smiley)

It's better if he doesn't. I heard it's easy to get stabbed or raped in Germany these days. Roll Eyes

Not at all! First you ask people to come meet you at your hotel lobby! Safety..and There are cams!

Second I just double check the people who are at localbitcoin to see if they are active or not!

Third whole thing didn't consume time, it was the experience itself! So if you add the 30-40 mins in doing research it was worth it!
Watch out, I've read a story of some guy that got scammed trying to exchange coins in a hotel lobby in Italy. It's somewhere in the legal section.

Wow, it is awesome and I am inspired by you to try traveling with Bitcoin. Do you intend to create an article with details of your trip? Any tips for us to take note?

Exactly the OP needs to give some more details for us to consider if it might also help our own respective course, batter trading just like exchanging Bitcoin for cash in localbitcoins is something risky and you should always agree to meet in an open place in person.

My journey started on Sep 21, from Boston to NYC, flight to Egypt then Turkey, back to Boston! Carrying $100 just in case and 3 bitcoins in my wallet!

Fuck If I will ever carry credit card, or cash any more:

1- I used Localbitcoins for cash! Search for best local currency rate!
2- How much I save from credit card fees and Fiat exchanges: $305.
3- Is it save to deal with Localbitcoins in person overseas? Yes, so amazing nice guys, you are making friends Smiley

You should try it! & $100 stayed with me! and I spent less than 1.9 btc in both countries!!!

How did you pay for flights and deal with big companies, did they accept Bitcoin or did you exchange for fiat first? It would be pretty amazing if someone had a "last mile" solution for going from crypto to the real world!

I am not into talking much! So it happened, you got the point, you can too enjoy it as BTC is heading back to $4500...

Nothing risky! Stop listening to stupid paid media! People are nicer overseas and more professional than anyone you could meet here! Plus you are not leaving your hotel! I met everyone at the Hotel lobby.

No its safe, I met these guys at my hotel lobby I didn't leave, it was on morning, plus you can tell from the guy who is walking toward you! A guy with a sweat suit and a chain on his nick? ..LOL

Oh wow, that's pretty damn amazing if it's true. I'm guessing you booked your flights and accommodations beforehand though? I mean, if you're going to backpack and all you have on you is Bitcoins, wouldn't that be a little too risky? I personally try to avoid Localbitcoins if I can on my home country, and I can't imagine having to depend on it on a foreign land, without a roof over my head. I guess it is true that there is a price to pay for convenience, and for the most part, for IRL transactions, Bitcoin is still rather inconvenient.

I would prefer to go the safer route with cash and credit cards, but I guess if I only really needed pocket money for food and souvenirs, only carrying Bitcoins would not be too bad. This story does make me long for the day when Bitcoin is accepted everywhere though.

That is actually a great feeling. Currently a lot of places are accepting bitcoin as a method of payment, which makes travelling easier if you are willing to use bitcoins.

I think its safe to use localbitcoins in foreign countries, you just have  to ensure that you will be able to access the cash. Exchanging your bitcoins for PayPal might make it easier.

I should also consider travelling with bitcoins at a later stage, surely it might be an awesome experience. Cool

I wonder why people are still using Paypal! Forget about Paypal! You have Bitcoin + Fiat..Don't add much between!

" If it's true" Wow aren't you a rude person!

It all goes how big your balls are... So you stay where you are! Keep your cash and credit cards!

But what I did was all about taking a risk! and just do it...Thats why I am sharing it.

If I had to do this, I would keep a credit card and other payment options with me, because the places I want to see does not have a clue about Bitcoin. It takes balls to do this with only $100 in your pocket and hoping that you will not get scammed somewhere along the line. ^smile^

OP, something that would make this thread epic, would be if you could add some pictures of the places you have seen.

This is some kind of a test as well if there are many people who are already using bitcoin and as a result, you were able to save some unnecessary fees because of bitcoin. This is an inspiration as well to the people who would like to travel in other country using only bitcoin since bitcoin is use worldwide so there would be possibility that in every place you go, you can spend bitcoin directly to pay or find someone who will buy your bitcoin in exchange of their fiat currency there. Maybe one day, I would try this but for now, I would just accumulate as much as I can.

If you dont count hotel and airline, my whole trip to EGYPT( Food, traveling between, gifts) costed me $275 ( which is almost the fees I would pay with card and currency exchanges)

Wow! I'm glad you made it. I'm personally one of those people here who want to travel to different places with the use of btc. It started as a dream and now here you are telling us your wonderful travel. You just shown us that it's possible and I cannot wait to try it too. I just hope that the places I want to explore accepts btc from fares to accommodations and foods. Here's for your wonderful experience, cheers!

This is a great story, and i feel like this just proves how convenient bitcoin is. People should really stop saying that bitcoin is useless or whatever and hear this man right here. Of course, right now you still need to convert bitcoin into fiat whenever you want something but in future you should be able to just pay with bitcoin, directly.

You could have actually gotten more bang for your buck if you chose to wait and instead of selling to an offer, create your own offer on localbitcoins. That way, you take advantage of the spread and actually get more than spot price for your coins, instead of being disadvantaged because of the spread.
