I haven't had dealing with Coinswitch, but Shapeshift is about as legit as it gets. It's led by a long established Bitcoin figure and the times I have heard of balls ups occurring it's been dealt with rapidly. If you're happy with the fees then it's one of the best options.

I used to use shapeshift before, and they are not scammers. I stop to use them because I like exchangers more then shapeshift, there I can do more things and for me that is more suitable. What you wish to do, which coins you wish to shift? Not every exchanger have same alts, that you need to check if you wish to exchange your alts for BTC or for some other coin, you need to give us more informations, but if not then use shapeshift and don't worry everything will be ok they are here for a long time and I believe that they are here to stay.
One more thing that I reminded from the last time checking them, shapeshift don't have all the coins too.

There are tons of services available for this. Some include shapeshift, changelly, Nexchange and various other exchanges.

Shapeshift.io seems to be a fairly trusted site just judging off the general consensus here and on the internet. What you should look into is bitcoin exchanges. There are a lot of exchanges that people use daily, like bitrex and poloniex. Take a look into the bigger exchange sites because they are the ones with much more trustworthy backing.

This area is up for grabs! PM me if you're interested.
