I would definitely but both because diversification is actually a good thing in Long term. I will divide my investment by 33% to Bitcoin, 33% to ethereum and the remaining 33% to different altcoins and ICO's.

I agree with your 33% of bitcoin and 33% for ETH but if you ask me to give you a sincere advice then brother don’t go for other altcoins or ICOs. They are not profitable even now so how can you imagine they will be profitable in next 5 years. Yeah ETH and bitcoin will have an amazing future so make it like 45% for each. Yes it is more wise to invest in Bitcoin or Ethereum in the next five years  because these coins are the top and giants in terms of popularity, price, stability, volatility and usability. Bitcoin is undisputed, tough, unstoppable and ia the father of all coins. ETH fall in line next to Bitcoin because of it's uniqueness and the ability to withstand the test of time. We can fully give our trust in these coins other than those new ones that suddenly appeared and then disappeared. Unfortunately, I converted all my coins into fiat just yesterday because I was accidentally collapsed and hit my head on the floor cement. Since I am worried about what would happen I coverted it all and withdraw for my medical check up. For now I have nothing in my wallet.

Best option is bitcoin because it is the trend setter of the digital currencies and no other coin is so versatile and profitable as compare to bitcoin, as far as ETH Is at 2nd option because as compared to bitcoin there are few people who know about ETH, so invest in that one which give you its maximum and bitcoin is here.

 Bitcoin is the safe play, but Ethereum has grrater opportunity for greater percentage growth.

The challenge that exists with Ethereum is that they need to branch out from the ICO business. The illifitimaye ICOs have a negative impact on Ethereum. If they can attract businesses to use their model to build more varietyof blockchain uses this company and ether will source.

Never underestimate either of these two because both have a got a very huge potential for the future and ETH is technologically more superior than bitcoin. Especially in terms of transaction speed at least. So my recommendation would be invest in both coins. Split up your  investment in to two parts and invest in both. Because both looks good in longer term. I was initially not interested in ETH and I missed the opportunity to buy ETh at $7 price. However, I have started staking both coins now.

I would say to split your investment, Bitcoin if you want a steady growth and Ethereum if you want a fast growth but risky.
Bitcoin is the most accepted cryptocurrency as of right now, there is no sign of any cryptocurrency taking over Bitcoin anytime soon.

Really there is no way to tell you which of the two is going to actually be better, since it's similar to comparing apples to oranges. Bitcoin has been around longer, bigger community, etc., while Ethereum is relatively new yet has an active dev team and is useful for a fair amount of different applications than just the movement of wealth that Bitcoin is, as an application. Ethereum has a lot of potential for volume-based growth but that depends on the growth of Bitcoin in the first place, there's too many variables and it almost always ties back to the growth of Bitcoin as a community and market.

Now I keep my money only in bitcoin, because I'm sure of it. However, the ethereum now also has quite good prospects. This is a new crypto currency, which now costs many times less than bitcoin. And if you buy it now, it is likely that you will earn a lot on it, as it was with bitcoin several years ago. i am not feeling hesitation to tell you that my first choice is to hold bitcoin for the next 5 years, because i am too much confident about the p;rice of bitcoin that it will continue increasing for a long time and hopefully that bitcoin will remain as the best crypto currency of the world for a long long time. therefore i think that bitcoin will be the best choice to select to hold it for the next few years.

there are so many people advertising ethereum as an investment but it really isn't wise to look at it as a long term investment in my opinion only because they are advertising it. and the only reason they are advertising it is because they want to dump it themselves.
also as the other comment says, ETH has no cap! the law of supply and demand says it can not go up. as the supply grows and keeps on growing the price declines. you can see Dogecoin for a good example.

For me, personally, it would be great and wise to invest your money to BTC if your outlook is for the next 5 years. BTC's presence is known to very little percentage of the whole population of the world and we still hit $5.7k this week. Imagine what could be the price of it in the next 5 years if people start to buy BTC and use it in their daily lives. The price of it would soar onto new levels and could give you insurmountable profits if you'll start investing into it today. Just go long for BTC and everything will be fine

I think it's even wiser to do a personal research on the underlying technologies behind Ethereum and Bitcoin and then study the history charts of both currencies, this way you should be able to make your own decision on which of the currencies to invest in.
