they cost 46-50btc directly from asic miner...if you buy 50 they are 46 btc a pop.

Also friedcat hasnt been reacting to orders for blades for about a week (see the official sale thread).

That's the other problem. I have no doubt of friedcat, but I think he is probably so busy with ASICMiner and the USB miners that he barely has time to check this forum or new orders for right now. He has done a ton for Bitcoin but probably doesn't get much sleep.

Honestly, you don't need escrow with friedcat. He has done more than enough to prove his trustworthiness. Have you checked the the BE sales thread?

Thanks for the reply. I heard that he was swamped right now. I totally trust friedcat. Also I cannot use DHL shipping in my area..always gets 'lost' by them somehow and gets returned to sender.

 Have no fear sending the BTC to the ASICMiner people directly. friedcat is solid.

 I'm awfully tempted to pull the trigger on buying a 10GH blade myself, but part of me wants to hold out for their next-gen product.

You should expect some tweaking with the cooling and power supply to get everything right. If you're not comfortable doing this, I'd recommend buying shares instead.

It's very simple to get going.  Just take an adapter you have lying around like a molex to SATA adapter, cut it in half, strip the cable back a couple millimeters, then insert the copper into the green terminal block.  2 minutes to make a little adapter then you can use any PC power supply.

Plus from i've read in the manual the blades are protected against shorts and reverse pole mounting.

 Ok. Sounds easy enough. Emailed friedcat to order a single blade.

 So I just connect the molex adapter to a power supply, strip two of the wires and plug it into the blade, set up Slush's Stratum proxy to point at Bitminter, and I'm ready to go, in theory ?

More or less. You should probably use two molex adapters to spread the load - there are 4 screw terminals on the blade's power connectors, two for +12 V and two for ground.
