Planning to setup my first mining rig. Which is better for ETH 6pcs of GTX1060 @ $279.99 each or 3pcs GTX1070 @ $429.99 each. Also need some advises for long term mining plan if GTX1060 will still be useful after several years.

1060 was better choice in past, but now with hyunix memory 1060 is too slow for eth.
Because of that is much better to go on 1070 cards. Even new p106 mining cards have lots of hyunix Sad

Is it a good thing that they are using hynix or not? Is there a way to know if what memory are they using?

yea, go amd if your planning to mine just ETH but in my opinion 1070s a good buy for more versatile/flexible gpu

Sorry not aware that AMD is better for ETH. but for future use 1070 is better than 1060? for AMD part which is better to purchase?

I prefer 1070 for its flexibility. But if you focus on ETH, P106-100 is a good choice for better ROI.
I'm using P106-100 for mining ETH, each card costs about 240$ here, and it could draw 25.5 Mh/s, while 1070 may cost about 470$ and hash 30.5 Mh/s.

If you do really want to save up I would really choose  P106-100 because its cheaper and the price difference is too big when you tend to buy 1070 on just mining ETH. This is only on case to case basis but if you do have plans on mining other alts then I would go for 1070 because it is better on 1060 performance but as expected roi would be longer considering on the cost.

What brand is best for a 1070 GPU? Is EVGA GTX 1070 SC good or not? And also what is the profitable coin to mine and algorithm to use for a 1070 card?

Thanks in advance for the answers.

Totally agree with you! Mining ETH is harder and harder so in somehow 1070 is a good choice because of its flexibility.

But ETH is one of my most favour coin, and I believe in its future, so I'm going to purchase more some P106-100 rigs.

EVGA GTX 1070 SC is a good card. I have 1 rig of 1070, it includes 4 MSI + 2 EVGA, easy in overclocking, yeah so far so good!

ZEC/ZEN/ should be profitable for 1070, you could reference whattomine.com for this (but actually I do not regularly get reference from this, I just mine which coin I believe).

well if eth will not go and change to PoS its still the best coin to mine and collect as we knew that future ahead would be much
brighter its all about trust, 1070 might work well for eth mining mate just research a lot and see how can you maximize your earnings.

Same card with samsung memory to to about 24.5m in eth, but with hyunix max hash rate is about 19m, depend of your lucky.
And dont be fast with buying p106, lots new are with that not so good hyunix memory Sad

Thanks by the way for your response, it is very much appreciated.

I guess those who go for Nvidia have purpose besides only mining, such as running AI training, or just normal numeric tasks. I heard Numba, the acceleration package for Python can use CUDA now.

Dual mining is fine, you could do it with ETH + DCR/UBQ/LBC...For me, I just mine ETH only.
I use Claymore miner in following link, OC setting as: +600 mem, -100 core, temp. target 70C, 55-60% fans, it's quite stable and stays around 64C.

Thanks a lot shibob, I will try to do a backread to the thread you suggest. I'm hoping to learn a lot from it. I'm still positive that mining is still profitable and it is still very much alive and kicking, contrary to those who said that mining is dead.
