I recently had a sender deposit an amount into my wallet that I just set up - this is my first time using Bitcoin. They confirmed deposit this morning and my balance is showing 0. Does this usually take time to go through? How long should I usually wait before I begin to worry? Is there a way to track the transaction? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you

Hi OP, could you specify what wallet you are using so we can help you easily. And also, in incoming transaction you can see it in your transaction history. It is not that fast to be seen in your balance as it will take few confirmations depending on your wallet.

How did they confirm the deposit? If it has confirmed they should be able to provide you with a transaction id. Did they? Once they send it, many wallets will show it as pending, so as the poster above said, what wallet are you using? If you wish, you can use your public key to check the balance elsewhere (vs your local wallet) too. Whatever you do, do not share your wallet or private keys with anyone.

I have a two factor authentication wallet. I sent the vendor the “Receive” address and they confirmed the deposit this morning. Forgive my ignorance, I’m just very new to this and don’t know what to ask or how to navigate in the wallet.

have you double check your address after you copy and paste it? maybe you missed some letters or numbers. if you think that you copied the correct wallet address , you should recieve the bitcoins properly but sometimes it takes time because it depends on the transaction fees. the higher the fee the faster it arrives and the lower the fees the longer it arrives ( vice versa )

You can always check using an online block explorer like this one https://blockexplorer.com/ , just put your address in and it should show a balance and all the transactions. This way you can see is it up to your wallet software or have the funds not been sent at all or not confirmed by the blockchain. You should also double check, if you used copy & paste on your address, that the address you provided is the same as the one in your wallet, since there is malware that changes addresses from the clipboard. You can check this by copying some address and seeing if it is different when you paste it somewhere.

Go here: https://www.blockchain.infoput the address that you sent the other person into the search box... do you see any transaction information at all? At the very least you should see 1 transaction with the amount they sent you, and a transactionID. Otherwise, they sent to the wrong address, or they didn't send the coins. Ask the sender for the TransactionID (txid) for the transaction they created. You can also enter that into the website I linked...

What is the name of the wallet? Would you share the receive address? (It is safe to do so from a “not losing your coins perspective” but would reveal your address. ). This would help everyone to better figure out what is going on.

Ask them for a screenshot to proof + trans ID
If address is correct + they send with good fee it will arrive in your wallet.

Depending on your Wallet this can take some time. If you are sure you sent the right address, check your address with a blockexplorer (e.g. Blockchain.info).
Ask your sender if he did send you BTC or BCC/BCH. And ask for the Transaction ID. You can then check the Transaction on a blockexplorer to See where BTC's have been send from/to.

The time taken might also depend on the wallet, if there is a transaction, you will be notified if you are using coinbase by an email, in other wallet they will have the time tranx is completed, which will be displayed on the tranx history. Patience too will be useful

Just like what others askin on here what wallet are you using? You can actually able to track the transaction if they did really deposit the funds or not. Usually you can see unconfirmed transaction on the history of transactions displayed into your wallet which do have corresponding hash which we would also need to know so that we can able to track out. Since this post is a week before I do really want to know whats the update on this one but seems OP did already forget this thread and might already get the solution or answers regarding into his questions.

You need a TX ID to track it and you should get that now. Sounds like they are outright lying to you. The other issue may be that your wallet is not synced yet, if this is the case, check your wallet address online for the TX and the balance. You may be off on your own fork with your friend.

It would need some time to show up in your wallet. Make sure your wallet is totally synced. You can allow it some more time. I see your issue was posted on Oct 3, but just posting this up for anyone else who searches this thread

If the sender is honest, then the transaction should instantly reflect on your wallet, even if it’s unconfirmed. If the sender lied, no amount of checking again and again will reveal any bitcoins.
So either that or you might have installed a rogue wallet.
Best way to move forward is to at least share the address in question so others here can help you understand what’s going on.
Ask the sender for the transaction ID.

Open a block explorer of your choice (e.g. https://blockchain.info), then search for your "recieve-"address you gave to your curstomer(?). If you dont find any transactions onto this address, ask your customer to send you the transaction ID. Afterwards you can check the TX ID on blockchain.info to see if its the right recieving address. If so, you should additionally check the tx fee and wait until at least 1-3 confirmations until you process his payment. If your address doesnt show any TX and your customer cant give you a valid TX ID, he is probably trying to scam you.

You can check the status of the transactions which have be done on any block explorer like blockchain.info. Now are yo sure that the sender has not mistaken you address and has honestly sent the money to your address? I suggest you look up your address on a block explorer website and check all transactions - since this is the first transaction for you then it should be listed on top. If there is no transaction shown even when the sender claims that they have sent the coins then there is possibility that they have stolen the money.
