Significance of chronic toxoplasmosis in epidemiology of road traffic accidents in Russian FederationThe study was conducted on the basis of the First Moscow State Medical University. Sechenov and the Moscow City Institute of Emergency Care N.V. Sklifosovsky.
Researchers selected 100 drivers - patients of the Research Institute. Sklifosovsky, injured as a result of road accidents, provoked by themselves, and conducted a serological blood test. Among them, the occurrence of toxoplasm was 45 percent. In the control group, out of 152 drivers - patients from the polyclinic of the First Moscow State Medical University who underwent a routine physical examination, only 39 people (25.66%) were detected toxoplasm.
Such figures mean that drivers with toxoplasmosis are more likely to have an accident. The authors of the work believe that the case is in the effect of the causative agent of the disease on the nervous system. It penetrates into nerve cells and changes the intensity of excretion of dopamine - a neurotransmitter, which plays an important role in the manifestation of emotions and in the control of movements.
