quick question: how would this fan compare to a reference cooler on a HD5870? can anyone tell me how it compares to that? in terms of sound production ofc would it be louder than that cooler on 50% speed? reason i'm asking is becouse i'm mining in my bedroom, and 50% on that card is really max for my comfort

I'd say it's about 80% fan on a 5970.

I got mine in yesterday, they were packaged nicely, arrived in working order, and sound like vacuum cleaners (and move about as much air!).
They are awesome, and for the price can't be beat.

Can anyone comment on how loud (or quiet) these fans are when used with a fan controller?

Assuming a linear correlation between voltage, CFM, and RPM. Turning the voltage down to 5V would net you a ~ 0.417 ratio (5V divided by 12V), resulting in ~54RPM at ~1333 RPM @ 5V . However, sound is on a logarithmic scale and would scale differently. The equation to figure out sound would look something like this: log(1333 rpm/3200 rpm) = log(x dB/48 dB), x ~ 20dB. Looking up other fans that spin @ 1300rpm +/- 10%, I see that this noise level aligns well with other fans.

Fans aren't silent but they aren't designed to be...
They have helped my rigs cool down and can run the gpu fans a bit lower.
Buy with confidence!

Seller was very prompt, faster than I'd expect. This 1 fan in a nzxt tempo evo made my temps drop 15C, its really pumping air in there. Contemplating buying 2 more to make it a vacuum, But doubt i'll survive the noise.

I bought four of these fans. The product was well packed and delivered quickly. The fans are fantastic.
However, the 3 pin to molex adapters are absolute junk. Before I had even used two of them, one had pulled the prong out of the molex adapter and two others had the wires separate from the molex prongs.
If you purchase these, I advise you consider buying 3 pin to molex adapters separately.

I haven't had any issues with my adapters when I got them. Might just be luck of the draw, but I like these molex adapters. I also have a molex crimper in case they came loose
