I don't think a specific date has been set, but November is what I've been seeing mentioned pretty much everywhere.

A few have mentioned at block 494,784

It's hard to say because this fork is supposedly different to previous forks and I'm honestly not even sure what's true about this fork, but some rumored changes:

- 1MB blocks increase to 2MB blocks
- Algorithm change from Sha-256 to Equihash
- Fork is winner-takes-all (i.e. one version ceases to exist)

I'm guessing a lot of FUD will erupt and that seems to favor holders of Bitcoin as people retreat to what they know in the short-term.

Also wondering: what are BCH's chances in all of this. Will one definitive BTC finally emerge? Will there be yet more forks?

i bet its gonna be two coins then...

the one that the big exchanges adopt will be "bitcoin" and the other may become "bitcoin classic"...

then we have the bitcoin-cash situation again... so get your coins into your own wallets, off all services.

It is likely to cause some selling and FUD ahead of fork date just like the last one.
Hard to know which coin out of the two forks will be considered real bitcoin
and carry more value so probably best to hold your bitcoin in your wallets
before and after the fork until it settles down.

Well, their chances are there: BCH would remain SHA256. And 100% of the blockchain's hashrate is running on SHA256.

- Algorithm change from Sha-256 to Equihash

Any Equihash would just run on some GPUs that formerly did ETH or something else. Since ETH turning POS.

I don't like that perspective!

A few have mentioned at block 494,784

We are at Height 488317 so this would be 6467 blocks ahead, or (10 minutes each) 45 Days ahead. Six weeks.
