I think I am just going to wait and see what happens. I like the idea of free money but I don't know what to make of this one.

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

The more announce regarding the official wallet to claim your bitcoin gold will be announced by the developers in the future. Just like bitcoin cash, for the second answer, the best choice for you to buy the coin that will be generated the fork coin like the bitcoin.

About the strategy, i would have sold the bitcoin now for 5100 and buy altcoins. Because news about bitcoin Gold up price for 500 and the Gold will not exactly cost that money.

Bitcoin Gold will not be as vulnerable as BCC I think, so I will leave my money in altcoins.

Unless you have tons of BTC, the best strategy is to buy altcoins in the dip and don't care about Bitcoin Gold. I have done the same about Bitcoin Cash and am more than happy with the results of this strategy. Plus I think Bitcoin Gold will be weaker than Bitcoin Cash.

I bought a set of top 10 coins and just wait. If I get another one to my 10 I'll be happy. I'm going to hold a coin for a long time and gold too.

1. Store your bitcoin in paper wallet or in electrum so that you will have access to your private key.
2. Wait for the fork and if you are holding other alts than don't sell them for bitcoin right now.
3. After fork, quickly sell your bitcoin by moving those bitcoin to exchange platform but keep private key of that address securely to claim bitcoin gold in future.
4. When there will be wallets supporting bitcoin gold than import your private key to access your forked coin.

Hi guys!  Cheesy

I've been following this forum for a while now and this is my first post.

I have two questions:

1. Where should I put my bitcoins to receive btg?
2. What is a good altcoin strategy concerning the fork?

I started with bitcoins just before the bitcoin cash fork. I had/have my bitcoins in coinbase and my altcoins divided between poloniex, bittrex and binance. The last fork I missed out on BTC cash. What should I do with my bitcoins to receive them now? Is transfering them to poloniex/bittrex enough?

Regarding my second question: Am I correct to think that lots of altcoins will go down before the fork because people are trading them for btc? I do some daytrading, does it make sense to set sell orders but no buy orders until the fork? Is it likely that altcoins will go up fast after the fork? What is your guys strategy to get the most out of the fork?

Thanks for your help! Smiley

You should be storing your bitcoin in any wallet where you control your private keys, and definitely not an exchange if you want any forked coin. Other wallets where you don't hold your private key may or may not support the fork and should be making announcements whether or not they will.

As to whether or not you should be focusing on bitcoin gold is obviously a individual choice but I think people are having hopes that it will act like bitcoin cash, which I am confident it will not. It will not have even close to the value of the previous fork as the support is significantly less. I also have a hard time seeing anyone actually buying BTG and everyone will try to dump it as soon as it is released. In the meantime, the alts will be soaring and people will have missed out in significant gains because they were chasing Bitcoin gold. Just my two cents.

To understand something, we need to collect more information on this forum. Also, to see the training in youtube, perhaps, to be trained in trade.
Information with reading post is very useful to know alticoin but post explanation is very simple, and true what you say practice by using youtube is one of the best way to remember.during a lot of bitcoin miners and many other ways and tricks made by them through social media

Hi.
I think there are 2 good options.
1: get as much btc before the fork (and before price rises), and hope for a good btg price.
2: near the fork buy cheap alts, and after their prices are recovered sell them for good profit.
I choose the 2.

you have to be very careful about what wallet you choose. for example the BTG wallet may even contain malwares to steal your bitcoins, private keys. or it can even damage your main wallet if you install it on the same system.

the best course of action is always to empty the keys from bitcoin first then import them into BTG clients.

if you are not sure, it is best to wait a while before claiming them. waiting means if any issue exists with their wallet it will be revealed and you will know about it. if you get greedy and rush to claim it, you may end up losing a lot.

The most important preparation for a fork is to make sure that you are in control of your own private keys, which is always advisable - with or without fork in sight - since it makes it much more difficult for malicious companies or governments to steal or freeze your bitcoins. Now, with a possible fork en route, it is absolutely imperative that you control your own keys. If you store your coins in the purse of a third party, such as Coinbase (where you do not have control of your own private keys), you will be forced to follow the fork that Coinbase chooses, instead of having coins that will have value in both block chains. If it turns out that Coinbase chooses the wrong fork (unlikely but not impossible), bad luck for you

My strategy which proved itself on BCH fork:
1. If you have a portfolio, do not sell altcoins with losses just to get more Gold. You don't know how much it will bring to you. Just leave it as it is. Or even buy more alts on dip which is happening now.
2.  Store all BTC on wallets with private key control. Copay, Jaxx, paper, etc.
3. After fork, sell 1/2 of forked bcg and wait. Sell around 1/4 on the next big pump. Leave some on your portfolio, not much, a similar amount to any other shicoin (2-5%).

In my opinion, that is the most diversified behavior.
Good luck.

YOu'd better withdraw your bitcoin from coinbase. I am affraid if coinbase will canceled your bitcoin and change to btc iron all. (not gold). Most developers suggest to send the coin to wallet with PV key that your hold. You don't have Pv key at coinbase. I don't like coinbase.

for myself it's better to Buy Bitcoin for investment because Bitcoin price goes up day by day.

That would too yield you bitcoingold for free. You would be getting a new alt bitcoingold equal to your bitcoin balance on the date 25th October 2017, for free.

Best stretegy will be waiting for good pump and sell some with profit.
Bitoin gold have nice promotion in media and attention so price wont go to 0 at once.
Be patient and sell on pump.

I think it is best to claim it right after the release and
1. dump all of it day 1 and don't look back
or
2. wait some more time to see it pumped and dump all of it (again). This is the best strategy for sure.

I agree with this strategy, probably the number two. By the way, the author of this post was right, alts have been dumped a few days later and prices have tanked.
