The Federation Council of Russia held a meeting on “digital economy” and “digital money”:

On September 27 this year, in the Plenary Sessions small hall of the Federation Council, experts held a closed meeting of the Federation Council Committee on economic policy with agenda on modern trends in the digital transformation of financial systems, with emphasis on digital money for Russia’s digital economy.

The meeting moderator Alexey Mayorov, First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy, drew the attention of the audience to the need for effective implementation of the Digital Economy program approved by the Russian Government’s order No. 1632-r of July 28, 2017, and introduced key experts in this sphere; expert in blockchain technologies Alexander Borodich, crypto-currency mining expert Artur Kudelya, ICO expert Anatoly Radchenko, and blockchain education specialist Nadezhda Surova.

Alexander Borodich, the founder of Universa blockchain, spoke about the great prospects of using blockchain in a number of business sectors. For example, blockchain allows to establish interaction within logistic chains and to monitor the entire supply chain in a convenient and transparent way. The technology guarantees the invariability of the input data, therefore it is perfect for holding various tenders, competitions and auctions, as well as for controlling the expenses of the state budget...

I even feel funny when I read the news about Russia. On the one hand, saying that the blockchain technology will help to control officials. Lol! It is in such a corrupt country like Russia? Do you believe that? On the other hand says that the meeting closed. Why hide from the public a good thing?

Everything cause of they still didn't decide what to do with Bitcoin, to follow Japan or China in this point. They are trying to mix all two - by adoption of Blockchain technology and not banning (yet), but warning about the use of crypto-currencies. I know how big percents Russian banks take for loans and I know how few percents they give for storage. So, I'm not surprised that banks in this country are taking negative side about cryto-currencies legalization and regulation. And the most of politicians are heads of banks and other financial structures, so their negative and "warnings" are logical to me.

They are hiding because officially they don't want to disrupt the market too early. They will wait with an announcement until a consensus is reached. It's how this should be handled. At least this way it appears to be professionally managed.
In reality they are clueless about cryptos and are afraid if this were to be made public they'd look like fools asking the most simple and basic questions. How can they rule about something when they have no idea how it works. Have in mind that most of these high ranked officials have never done coding and all they are using their computers to write emails and read documents.

when I hear news from Russia regarding cryptocurrency regulation I feel like it is some sort of a series
with plot twists, betrayals, lies and false promises, hopefully no deaths
every week or so Russia is either legalising it completely(well according to the news)
or banning cryptocurrencies  with  200 years of prison sentences for those who caught trading or holding  Grin
should wait for the official statements, not the gossips, but it is a fun read:"Putin is meating with Vitalik!" "Sources close to the russian goverment confirm ban on bitcoin!" etc.
