Hi,

Electrum is killing me. I try for a month now and I can not make it running.

When I create a new wallet, everything is fine. Green light. Quick synch.

Once I transfer smth. to this wallet, it stucked synching. Stucked with the blue arrows. Can not enter my funds there.

Using Whonix. Setup as recommended with stream isolation through Port 9111. Tested 9050, 9151 and 9150.

I red stuff about Electrum synching for a night. But I thought it is a light weight client that is not downloading the blockchain and therefore should synch real quickly. Or did I understand something wrong?

Can't get it running. Don't know what to do.

Ah, god. It is version 2.7.9.

Thats what you get when sucking it through the backports.

Why is it not automatically updating, when updating the system?

You distro's repos haven't updated to a newer version. Install from source as per the instructions on electrum.org/#download. Note you may need to apt-get install python-setuptools too.

Got it. Works. Now I have a blue dot. Some improvement at least.

Next problem is: I restored that wallet from a seed, but there is no balance showing up.

I have never seen balance on this qallet, as I could never synch it.

Yes I am sure. It says network. I guess this comes by connecting through tor. Correct me, if I am wrong.

I have followed Abdussamad's advice and

apt-get install python-setuptools and had to use sudo -s to get the root permission( if thats what its called).

After trying to install setuptools i got this error message:

"Package python-setuptools is not available, but is referred to by another package.

This may mean the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source

E: Package 'python-setuptools' has no installation candidate"

Can someone assist me with the next step from here? I too am trying to upgrade from electrum 2.7.9.

I did not install the setup tools. Worked fine without.

My wallet seed is definitely the right one. When I check one of my addresses on block explorer, I even can see the balance. But in Electrum I don't see any balance. At least I won't have lost my funds, just need a way to access them....

You probably had setuptools and pip2 already installed.  Maybe try logging in from a different location or server to see funds?

Yes that's interesting. It shows a blue dot when you use a proxy Tongue

python-setuptools is sometimes required in debian and derived distros so that's why I mentioned it.

So, it is getting weird.

I got my 0 balance. I checked one address through block explorer, which had balance for sure. After restarting my wallet today, it suddenly got that one. But there is another address, that has balance as well, which is not shown in my wallet. Wtf is going on here?

At least everything is there and I have the right seed. But it freaks me out.

Did you do anything with the wallet like send and/or receive funds? Wondering if it is a gap limit issue and generating new address(es) is why it suddenly found coins...

Most likely though it's probably related to issues with the network and/or server due to the use of TOR...

Have you tried using without TOR?
