My only advice is not to invest dollars in one coin, but maybe the one that will bring you the most profits is the one you invest the least, but you always reduce the risk and loss. |

As said above, it's better to buy more coins to spread the risk. After reading quite a lot about various coin and tokens, my suggestion would be:
Low risk: Ethereum, Litecoin, Neo, Qtum, IOTA, Waves
High risk: Bancor, Monaco, DeepOnion, Mysterium - the last two are low cap, which mean even higher risk, but higher potential profit

Are you referring to altcoins that are already on the exchanges? Or are you referring to altcoins that are offered through ICOs? If you are referring to coins that are already existing on the exchanges then perhaps you will consider TFL tokens because another round of lottery is scheduled soon. About ongoing altcoins offered in ICO, try to check EVT tokens. Almost sold out. The ICO will be until the 14th of this month. |

If you plan to invest short-time then I guess bitcoin is your only chance to get profit. Another fork is getting prepared and it was recently announced that CME will accept bitcoin via bitcoin futures contract. All these kinds of news don't do good to altcoins as you probably see on coinmarketcap and even good projects don't manage to get the needed demand, because people dump coins for the only bitcoin. Just buy I btc and you will have good profit till the end of this year. Altcoins can currently only be considered long-term, unfortunately. |

I can second the Spectrecoin calls, definitely worth to learn more about that one. You might also want to check out other low marketcap coins to identify coins with a big growth potential.

I wanna suggest you, forum admin theymos' altcoin list: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2095328.0His suggestions are very great, as Ethereum is #1 altcoin, IOTA is currently the most innovative one, Monero is the best anon coin, and Zcash is the 2nd best anon coin. He plans to review some other coins but I can also say Dash, Neo and Waves from his "not yet evaluated" list as potential good future investments. |
