I'm thinking about buying a chunk of NEO and just "forgetting" about it for a couple of years while earning GAS. Is the web wallet safe enough for this to hold? Of course I'm talking about storing private keys and passwords offline, etc... I'd probably barely log in.
The reason why I'm thinking web wallet over GUI wallet is... I'm not going to be paying attention to wallet upgrades or re-donloading the blockchain etc. Other than checking on the price of NEO I probably won't be too involved checking updates etc.
Comments, recommendations?

If you were going to do this then it's probably a good idea to actually download their wallet and run that on a completely isolated environment instead of having a web wallet. Web wallets are definitely not as secure as offline wallets. You don't have to worry about downloading blockchain or wallet upgrades. I mean you're only going to access your funds after a set amount of time, so there is no point in syncing all the time. You just need to keep your wallet file safe. |

NEO is a great coin, the price is stable and keeps going up, happy because I get a huge profit when invested a year ago, because when I bought December 2016 the price is only about $ 0.11 and now the price is more than $ 40. Thank dev.

Invest in cryptocurrency always risky. I hope that China will make amendments, and NEO will become official platform for ICO in china. In the future the market should grow, so I think that is not a ceiling. |

It went as high as $30 I think. But it faces a slump when the Chinese announcement banning of ICO but have soon recovered. I also have NEO but I'm holding it for long term that's why I seldom check the price of it. If you are saying that there is a dump, then probably I will buy more because I truly believed that it has bright future and could go even $50 or more once again. As to the OP, Yes, its a good catch if you are able to buy NEO during this dump and just hold on it for about 6 months to a 1 year and see how it goes for you. |

Holy crap. The things you learn from randomly searching this forum.
I bought NEO a month ago just as a long term investment. I did not know you could earn GAS by staking NEO simply by holding it in a wallet. Quite sad bittrex doesn't award GAS tho. Did a quick google search and it seems that Binance is the one that credits free gas.
Anyway just wanted to say thanks as well. NEO to the moon guys.

Your plan looks completely stable to me. The more better thing is you are going to hold NEO which is fast better good coin than any other coin in the market currently.
Yes, go for the web wallet and I'm sure that will help you to forget about the coin and you will make it upto few years hold for sure. Just make sure you don't see any bad news about the coin while going through this journey of holding. That would be chaos if anything goes wrong with it often rather than single shot. For example there will be little drops in between and you can grab the opportunity to buy more and at cheaper rates. You can stop doing that until few months s that you can have good amount of holding. Nice plan go for it. And no GUI off course.

the thing that scares me about your plan is the price of NEO in the long run. a couple of months is such a long time for an altcoin, let alone a couple of years. waiting that long can even mean coming back to an empty pocket of some worthless tokens.
or the best case scenario is that NEO goes to the moon and comes back and you miss the chance to sell on top and take the profit

NEO is a coin of a solid project with a good team. The project team has delivered some nice tech, but for the long-term view I think more important is the situation in china. Neo is targeting the Chinese crypto community. If ICOs are forbidden in china, then I think it will be hard for Neo in the future....

If you're only looking to invest a couple of hundred dollars and just earning gas while holding for months (or years), then I'd say there are few worse wallets than the web wallet. It's secure enough, you have your own private keys. If the worst happens and the wallet dies, you can always resurrect it at another wallet. NEO would never allow that to happen anyway, unless NEO dies, in which case it's pointless for you to try keep your coins.
But if you're talking about a lot of money, I'd be safe and go for a wallet on your device.

I don't trust altcoins so I am not sure what to forget for a few years on them is a good strategy. The prices of altcoins is not very stable and so if you use them it is best to trade them on the stock exchange permanently. Thus you will get more profit and will always be protected from sudden fall in prices. The same tactics apply to bitcoin.
