MOD EDIT:
Probably a scam

Hello, my name is Herbert Hoffmann, I'm 42 years old and live in germany. 2 years ago i got depressed and thought of killing myself. I was self-employed in the financial sector for years and made very decent money by writing my own scripts for speculating. 2 years ago i lost nearly everything in my divorce. My children stopped contacting me and i lost my house and my cars. For a while i worked at grocery stores because i had no money left for speculating. I wasted almost all my free time on the internet and found bitcoin quite a while ago.
I invested about 200€, followed the market all day and started writing scripts again. Last month i was able to buy a house in the USA in the middle of nowhere Smiley I can go fishing there and have enough money to live the rest of my days there, just relaxing in the nature. My plane is going friday.

There won't be any internet, and i'm not interested in it. I still have 2500btc laying around which i don't need anymore and can't liquidate till friday anyway.
So i wrote my last script: Every bitcoin that you send till thursday evening to the following adress will come back doubled thursday night: ADDRESS REMOVED

If more than 2500btc get send, everything over 2500 will just be returned. If less than 2500btc get send, please tell me where you wish me to donate the rest to.
I won't be online till Thursday and can't reply to this thread, moving to the USA takes a lot of preparation.

Thanks to all of you who helped making Bitcoin popular. You saved my life and have my eternal gratitude!

Best regards, Herbert

Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

Oh man, this just has scam written all over it. I don't want to dis his story, suicide is a very difficult subject, but don't send any of your coins to this address unless you are prepared to lose them.

No transactions so far, but keep watching on http://blockexplorer.com/address/1Hkj76tQ3PCx8ty6qX4YkGEzogTa4gmoHR

OP just registered today and this is his only post. Why does his script wait until Thursday evening to send payments? Couldn't it just as easily send double the deposit after X confirmations? And where is the evidence that he has any BTC, let alone 2500?

Please don't send any bitcoins to this person. If he truly wants to "give back" he can donate his BTC to Bitcoin100: 1BTC1oo1J3MEt5SFj74ZBcF2Mk97Aah4ac

Still around.

scam  (skm) Slang

A fraudulent business scheme; a swindle.

To defraud; swindle.

If OP makes good on his claim = no scam.
If OP keeps BTC and has no intention of following through = scam.
If no one sends any BTC and, consequently, no one loses BTC = attempted scam.

I was suspicious of Pirate from the beginning and the fallout from his scheme was about what I expected. Does that mean he didn't scam?

Still around.

Tell that to the Nigerian prince that scammed your grandmother. Just because you think its a joke doesn't mean someone else won't fall for it. This is the newbie forum FFS.

It's kind of absurd when you think about it. Couldn't he just written a script that would giveaway bitcoins e.g. 1 BTC per IP and put it on a free hosting with a website to go along with it. That is if he actually is telling the truth (0.00000001% chance).
