I have a rig with 2 1070 4Gb cards in it. If I add a 1060 3Gb card, does that mean the rig will no longer be able to mine Ethereum, or will the 1070 cards mine Ethereum, and the 1060 3Gb something else?

I'm mining on Nicehash..

Thanks

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

Don't bother with Nicehash. Just mine Eth with whichever card supports it, and use the rest for whatever they support. And, of course, you can run all kinds of combinations simultaneously.

I don't remember how nh works but you could select which algo/coin to mine for each card. Still the 1070s will work fine.
Also you can look into other options to mine around here with your nvidia cards, there are better than eth.

Edit: You can still mine eth with the 3gb card, does it have samsung memory?

Thanks for the responses guys.

I thought 3Gb cards couldn't mine Ethereum as the DAG is over 3Gb now?  Looks like my memory on the 1060 is Samsung.

Ethermine has an unusual payout scheme.  Any recommendations on Ethermine vs Nanopool?

You cannot mine ETH with 2 GB cards for some time now, however 3 GB cards are still usable for another year I believe. There was a dev post somewhere that had calculated the exact time-frame but the feeling was it would be PoS or close to it by the time 3 GB cards became unusable. Anyway for now you are good to go dropping a 3 GB card into the rig.

EDIT: Here is a link to a spreadsheet showing a 11/29/2018 prediction: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1_HoD8UIlyNeUe3rJYNY1Sz_EGN2tB4WpUH65ADAhaug/edit#gid=0

depends on the memory type, 1060 3gb with samsung memory can reach 24mh/s @75watts.

Simple 1060 ones aren't that profitable but they aren't bad. You can definitely use it for Eth mining, the Dag size is currently at 2.2Gb approximately, it will mine for at least one more year, maybe even two. Mining on Nicehash isn't bad, the software itself and the pools are decent. It's extremely useful if you are only interested in receiving BTC.

You can run two different miners simultaneously. Mine ZEC with 1060 and ETH with 1070.

3GB is enough for around 1-2 years, so I think you'll be alright with these cards. 6GB is best as the DAG probably won't catch up to there for a little while, and the specs on the 6GB cards are slightly better most of the time compared to the 3GB cards.

Dont worry. Nicehash miner just connect yours 1060 3gb to 2 1070 and you will see all 3 card in miner.
