Charnacoin

Overview

Charnacoin provides enhanced privacy and boosts efficiency. It is being developed for use as a payment method by:

A 300-acre 50-Megawatt solar farm in Maryland
A 4-Megawatt solar farm in Davao City, Philippines
Transmate; an app used to assist in building a market for private bus operators and passengers (Press release here)

Supply: Infinite Supply; once the block reward reaches 0.3 coins per minute, the supply will increase by 157,680 coins per year
Block Reward: Follows the equation: (M - A) * 2-19 * 10-8, where M = 21,599,999,892, and A = Atomic units in circulation
Block Time: 60 seconds
Difficulty: Retargeted at every block

Payments

Charnacoin has stealth addresses which eliminates the requirement for merchant recipient addresses; when receiving payments a merchant will instead provide the person paying with a 16-64 character long hexadecimal "payment ID".

Receiving Payments
To receive a payment the user generates a random 64 character hexadecimal string and communicates it to the individual making the payment.

Checking for Paments
Those checking for a payment can do so through the Charnacoin wallet client. The “payments” command followed by the payment ID(s) will return a list of payments.

Other JSON RPC API calls:
get_bulk_payments: this is the preferred method, and requires two parameters, payment_ids, a JSON array of payment IDs, and an optional min_block_height, the block height to scan from
get_payments: this requires a payment_id parameter with a single payment ID.

The amounts returned are in Charnacoin unit. A transaction may have multiple outputs that add up to the total required for the payment. Amounts should be summed across the tx_hash or the payment_id. Before scanning for payments it is useful to check against the daemon RPC API (the get_info RPC call) to see if additional blocks have been received.

Running the Node

Once you have the tools downloaded and unpacked you don't need to do anything beyond running the Charnacoin daemon (charnacoind).

On Linux
Dependent on whether you are running it on a desktop or server operating system, you will want to start charnacoind either in a screen session or in a console window of its own. Therefore run charnacoin-wallet-cli to use start_mining or stop_mining options to manage your mining process.

On OS X
Locate charnacoind in Finder and double-click on it. As with Windows, if it opens and then closes, or crashes after starting, then you can start it from within Terminal. Follow the same process to run charnacoin-wallet-cli to use start_mining or stop_mining options to manage your mining process.

On Windows
Locate charnacoind.exe in Windows Explorer and double-click on it. If it opens and then closes, or crashes after starting, then you may want to start it from within Command Prompt in order to see what errors arise. Also locate and run charnacoin-wallet-cli.exe to use start_mining or stop_mining options to manage your mining process.
