Hi guys,
im new to this mining thing, my in law has a big solar farm and he wants to use his almost free electricity for mining.
i was thinking of eth maybe some other coins to split the risk.

i saw a few posts recommending the NVIDIA GTX 1050 Ti
any suggestions what i should start with at home as "proof of concept"?
i need to test out the power usage vs income and get accurate numbers before spending a large amount of money.

any help would be highly appreciated, thanks

Gtx 1050 ti is a cheap /lower power and efficient card.

However with that budget, solar power and lack of knowledge i wouldnt go for something like that. Since its a cheap/low card the number of GPU's would be bigger and therefore increasing the number of rigs and difficulty of setup and maintenance.

The most popular options are:
AMD - rx 580 or vegas
Nvidia - gtx 1070 / 1080 ti

I advise you to read up alot more before making any decisions.

Free electricity will provide good additional profit.
Try with VEGA series or 1080ti.

He has large mount of electricity in hand, and 300k budget, I think he should go with state-of-the-art GPUs such as Vega 64 or 1080 Ti. They have better ROI.

I think you are better off buying 1070's for mining Eth and Zcash etc.  IMO 1080 Ti are just too pricy.  I have 50-60 1070 6 card rigs and over a 100 others RX, 1060 etc.  IMO 1070 is best bang for the buck.

Where do you live?

If you are close to New Jersey I could build a simple machine with 1 card, you could test with it.

I also would say get an asic like the Avalon 741 .
