Hi,

My current coin distribution looks something like:
BTC 40%
ETH 40%
Other 20% (tokens and altcoins)

Right now BTC is going up, while ETH is still around 300$.

I am here for the long term, and I know two things:
1. Bitcoin has a limited supply of 21 millions btc
2. Ethereum doesn't have a supply cap, which may lead to inflation (I suppose)

On the long run, should I maintain the BTC-ETH balance at 50-50, like I do now, or should I go for more BTC than ETH?

Thank you!

I don't think it's wise to ask such questions because half or replies will be pure speculation and the other will not be honest (people will promote the coin in which their own funds are) so I just warn you to take all opinions with giant grain of salt. You should be able to make your own decision.

I'll be one of the second group (as I'm involved only in BTC mining) and will say: THE BITCOIN RULEZ (always was and always will).
I have some ETH as well and consider it as great coin with lot of great features the BTC is no. 1 for me.

I'd diversify more.
Don't sell all your bitcoins, but I'm a little bit weary as there are some dangers facing the currency going forward. This is a very interesting read, highlighting one potential danger: http://bitcoinandtheblockchain.blogspot.se/2017/08/chain-death-spiral-fatal-bitcoin.html

Bitcoin will always be the same, and your portfolio looks good, but if i was you, i would sell some of those Ethereums and invest that money on bitcoin, you know that if you have btc, you are going to get free bitcoingold on november, when the fork is happening.
So better to buy btc now that it is cheap, maybe it will be worth a lot more before the fork, because a lot of people are moving its alt's money to bitcoin.

You could sell some eth and buy some more btc, but I would keep eth in my portfolio.

It's always advisable to split your investment, may I ask in what coins you invested the 20%?

The price of bitcoin is very high now, so I'd wait investing in it till it drops a little, because it will always go up again! Smiley

If you are shorting then BTC is right choice, because moving money USD->BTC->USD->...you actually still hold some BTC but also make USD on hights.

BTC and ETH are different coins. BTC , as we all known , it's the first and the most popular coin, it is the best trust by us. But I don't think it will be a currency because of this max limit. In another word, the ETH has another advantage , it’s smart contract. Maybe one day, ETH will be more popular than BTC. This is just my viewpoint.

2. Ethereum doesn't have a supply cap, which may lead to inflation (I suppose)

This is main reason Ethereum is not worth its price.
There is no limit cap and constant bug flow causing monetary looses to people.
I would go 90% bitcoin and 10% for fun in alts if u need that adrenaline/thrill.

In my opinion you need to invest more in BTC maybe 70% and 30 altcoins.

My basket looks right now exactly like that: 70% BTC - 30% ETH.
But anyway in my opinion in 2018 ETH have bigger potential to grow.
Everything will be more clear after implementing Segwit.. Then i will consider to move some source to ETH. Maybe it will be 50% - 50%

IMO you should keep Eth not more than 20-30% for possible grow and participation in ICO
Bitcoin amount should be greater and not the same as Eth.

Thank you for the help!

I'll keep my current ration for the moment, but I'll check the market for any profitable movements Smiley

Yes, I see the things in a similar view. Many startups create their tokens using the ETH blockchain, and some of them have real potential.

BTC is still king. There's already so much investment built around BTC that it has very much a life of its own. Any fall in price is immediately supported and bought by the people waiting in the sidelines to hold long term. LONG TERM. It has become an asset that people are willing to store like gold.

I think you should invest in both of them as both of the cryptocurrencies have enormous potential to grow. Bitcoin, without any doubt is the most popular crypto is the most stable crypto available in the market. Ethereum on the other hand is the master of all smart contracts has one of the strongest development teams makes it a crypto worth investing. Investing in both of thems can help you earn high returns.

I buy both coins. What of them will shoot the monetary fountain it is impossible to guess. Both coins have to be in your investment portfolio  Cool
