Auroracoin was a good idea, and pretty cool, but it doesn't seem that it actually accomplished the goals that it set out to accomplish. Iceland doesn't use it, their citizens are using bitcoin if they want crypto, not auroracoin. Iceland is a developed and well off country with educated people and computers everywhere. If it didn't work there, l don't see how this idea could possibly work in the middle of Africa.
That's why l don't think anyone is trying to do it, but maybe someone did try and we just don't know about it because it was a failure.
That's an intersting way to look at it and it makes a lot of sense. If it doesn't work in Iceland, why would it work in Africa? Since most African countries still aren't fully developed it will be hard to make such a project work. Since there isn't a lot of infrastrucure available it will be very though. But that doesn't mean it can't succeed.
