I am kinda confused with these forks but this time I want to take advantage of it.  Roll Eyes

I have a few questions regarding the coming fork on October 25, 2017:

  • Where do I need to keep my Bitcoins to get the free Bitcoin Gold? Are there any condition to where we store it such as which exchanges or wallets supports it ?
  • Whats the last deadline to have Bitcoins in the wallet to get free Bitcoin Gold.
  • For example: Is it possible to have bitcoins in my wallet on 24th October and take advantage of free Bitcoin Gold on 25th October? or must I keep it there earlier for some time?

P.S. Sorry for my bad English.

P.P.S. Sorry if this is a wrong section to ask for such topics/discussion.

Someone wrote a good write up on it - it was just one page back in this same forum.

You can view the information here:

It's well written and pretty straight forward.

Thanks. Seems like i suck at search.

EDIT: I am still concerned with these question as I cant find answer to this:

Whats the last deadline to have Bitcoins in the wallet to get free Bitcoin Gold?
For example: Is it possible to have bitcoins in my wallet on 24th October and take advantage of free Bitcoin Gold on 25th October? or must I keep it there earlier for some time?

Nothing is clear as of this moment and the only definite information that we have is that you need to have control of your own private keys by 10.25 or earlier else you should not be getting any equivalent BTG from your BTC. I've been trying to search as much information as I could about this upcoming fork and make a post from it but sadly, all I have are some indefinite information from their team's end. Fortunately, I came across this article briefly stating what to do to get your own share of BTG.

Here's a snippet from the said article:

And here’s the important part: Both of your coins (BTC and BTG) will have the same private keys.

Moreover, due to this fork/split, another problem called Replay Attacks can happen.

Though, they say that they have replay protection in place, but we are not sure how effective it is as it has not been tested live.

So to avoid replay attacks and access your free BTG coins, we suggest you take care of the following things:

Avoid transactions for some days until the dust settles to avoid replay attacks.
Keep your Bitcoin private keys with you, not in a third party exchange like Coinbase.
Use hardware wallets like the Ledger Nano S and Trezor. Last time, during the Bitcoin Cash fork, these two hardware wallets were the first to support the forked coin.
If you don’t have a hardware wallet, use software wallets like Jaxx, Coinomi, and Exodus to control your private keys.
You can also use a paper wallet or brain wallet.
If you hold your keys in a paper wallet or software wallet, wait for instructions on how to access your BTG coins.

You must be one of the many people who are getting their Bitcoin ready for the coming hard fork which can give birth to Bitcoin Gold akin to what transpired in August which was the birth of Bitcoin Cash. as for me, I am just keeping my small hoard of Bitcoin in Bittrex because they are supporting (as always) the birth of Bitcoin Gold and I can get my share of it no matter what. The date has been set for the delivery of BTG and am sure people would be rejoicing for this day and then people would be selling their BTG to BTC afterwards. After all, it is only Bitcoin which is the real Bitcoin just like you can call a sunflower as rose but we know the real thing. Good luck!

What you need to do during fork is to keep your bitcoins on wallet and exchangers who have supported BTG so you get free BTG. And one you must remember is that you do not have any transacation when the fork starts already because it may be lost. And as I know it you will receive 1: 1 I mean some bitcoins your hold you will also receive BTG

Yes you got me right. I am on the same boat. Right now I have all my BTC on bittrex exchange however, I have read an article on steemit.com that bittrex has NO official announcement that they are going to support this fork unlike the Bitcoin Cash. Are you certain of this information?

Everyone who owns bitcoin will automatically get bitcoin gold for free and be able to sell it afterwards while keeping your regular bitcoin amount, as long as you have control of the private keys for your wallet.

As long as you keep your private keys in your hands, you will be able to get your share of BTG on the fork. You just need to import the privkey on a wallet that supports it and you should have your balance appearing afterwards. Also, be sure to spend any coins on your wallet after the fork so that you'll not regret it later. Alternatively, you can keep it on an exchange that supports the move so that you can trade it immediately, and that is up to you.

It depends on who wants to buy it. If everyone wants to sell and nobody wants to buy, its estimated value is 0.

Bittrex last time gave bitcoin cash earlier than most and started trading straight away, those with bitcoin on the exchange were the lucky ones that managed to make a nice bit of money, not sure on their stance right now if they will be doing the same with bitcoin gold or not.

As far as I know there are certain wallets and exchangers that supports Bitcoin Gold but I haven't read any announcements yet since I am a little outdated lately. Everything is still a speculation for me. I only have my BTC on my wallet and hopefully that wallet supports BTCG, crossing fingers that I will have some free coins in my account. Let's see if there will be any updates few days before the fork as 1:1 ratio is really promising.

You might also like this comparison chart for some bitcoin forks and Bitcore BTX (not actually a fork but a new coin that allows BTC holders to claim BTX without exposing their private keys).

Read the FAQ or lookup the Bitcontalk ANN thread: https://steemit.com/crypto-news/@xwerk/bitcore-btx-all-important-info-f-a-q-or-2nd-oct-2017

It depends on wallets and exchanges. You should check their news. In general, almost all famous exchanges will cope wig hardfolk coins.

I want to buy. Right now. But yet don't know how technically do such deal. There is no wallet, there is no way to do any transaction.
By the way Bitfinex has introduced a feature for people who want to bet on price of Bitcoin Gold.

Recently read in the twitter that bitcoin gold is supported by bittrex.

Does it mean when you have your BTC at bittrex exchange site you will also have Bitcoin Gold for this upcoming hard fork? Am i right?

I was also confused about that to where to keep my bitcoins for getting the bitcoin gold. One of my friend suggested me to keep then in the desktop wallet as he said that in desktop wallet i will control my private key and my bitcoin will be more secure while i keep them in my that wallet. He also told me that in keeping in exchange like yobit i will get the bitcoin gold instantly like bitcoin cash but he said it is a risky method. Many people are saying that if you have it in online wallet or exchange then move them to desktop. So for that I am still confusing.
