I am helping a friend recover funds from various wallets he hasn't logged into for years. He basically did the right thing and hodled. However, he hand wrote, on paper, various mnemonic passphrases and passwords as one should but over time the paper has go damp and has badly deteriorated, the pen used was some sort of felt tipped and the ink has run making most of it unreadable. We have recovered Ripple and are working on the bitcoin passphrase.

We have a 13 word blockchain legacy wallet passphrase to recover the password. This is not a seed string but password recover string.

However we can read all words but 2. Word 8 and 13 are eligible. I have looked at the code but it beyond my skillset to develop brute force software to recover the password.

Anybody any ideas or the skills to help brute force the password.

If your friend is a user of the Blockchain Wallet v1, then he should consider visiting this solution.
Alternatively, ask the owner of Walletrecoveryservices.com, he may decrypt your password depending on the amount of BTC your friend is holding.

unfortunately we only have the wallet identifier and 11 out of 13 words from the password recovery mnemonic.

I thought Blockchain used 12 word recovery phrases. Are you sure the mnemonic phrase is for Bitcoin?
I know some Monero wallets use 13 words mnemonic phrases but maybe I'm just misinformed.

This is a V1 password recovery string. HD wallets are 12 words which act as the wallet seed.

I think the original dictionary where the words come from is about 60,000 words we can't bruteforce by hand 60,000 x 60,000. I have read the legacy recovery code on github but I'dbe fucked if I can understand it. I'm an old school programmer and last language I used was VB.

Can you link me to the document? I could try to program a brute force tool for this particular case. I know the basics of C.

Everyone will be careful about this service offer, it will possibly lead to a scam once your private key and password exposed.
