Not all ICOs work well and there are even ICOs that fail and most of us experience losses because sometimes there is a statement from ICO stating that when the project fails then all the funds collected investors can not be returned. of course this is a very detrimental for investors. but many successful projects and can make us benefit. the best way I think is to do the analysis of the project, look at the various information and do not be ashamed to ask more experienced people. otherwise buying a pre-sale time will certainly be profitable because the price is much cheaper. so it needs to be emphasized that the proper selection of ICO will affect the success or failure of the project.

I am interested in pre sale ,, the price is cheap ,, but, the risk is rather heavy ,,, before me, if you want to buy ico ,, its usual I see ico progress is whether it is enter the category softcap or is close to hardcap what not yet ,, I just bought the ico ,,, but I did not get the bonus and the price is rather expensive

2. Of course at the first pre sale, You could get max $0.5 per token
3. Check the project community, the quality of it advertising ( I thought the project that give a value plus to its advertising can be trusted)
4. Depends with the succes of its Ico. It could be multiply you asset 10x or more.

1. You have to seek for what project is offering and who is behind the project.
2. Buying at pre-sale is good option, also you can buy some cheap tokens when they will be listed on exchange platforms (bounty hunters will dump their free coins).
3. Don't invest in projects which don't have any escrow in between.

you need to read in their thread/announcement to know the details of the project. you need to read their whitepaper, know the dev and the team, what their plan with the ico especially for their long term plan because its important, people wants to know what will happen with the ico after its launch in the market and what is the benefit for the investor and the customer. i think they have their own channel so the investor can meet them directly and talking to them related with the project. but i don't know how to prevent from the scam ico because its need time to know this.

Dear there are many icos coming now a days..but very less are good  ...icos are very profitable as it is starting stage of a coin..
presale is more profitable as u get coins in less price ..to buy an ico check which community is behind it

While it is way better to trust our own analysis it is also important to look for the opinions of others that way you will get a better picture about the way other people see that project, a few posts above a user said that is important to look at the twitter followers and while that is a kind of an obvious thing that is something that I never thought about it until now because I do not use social media.

every person should have some points that are significant for them in choosing ICO.
1.Team and it background, 2.Timeline of projects a clearly and easily to understand, 3. Have partnership with fonds or organizations, 4.in WP there is information abt amount of money to each stage, 5. Good support in social media, and good customer service in official resources.

For me all this stuff with crypto looks like gold rush. And in my opinion now we have more ppl involved in investing that give possibilities to scammer become rich. It was always, if ppl are not very smart someone try to stole their money. 
I still believe we have no scam ico, but we need to know everything  abt projects and smart enough to recognized scam.
I make a little investigation abt confideal and almost sure that it nit scam and very powerful ico
