Greetings,

Years ago a coworker gave me a nominal (at the time) amount of Bitcoin.  I forget the amount, the guys name, the exchange I might of used, basically everything.  However, I managed to write down the password I used and the 36-character identifier or key.  I do not have access to the email address I used back then and can't remember the exchange I might have used.  Again, this was back in like 2012-13 so I have very little information.  Can someone help me find this Bitcoin?  Thank you.

Hi,
Are the BTC amounts inside the exchange? do you have only the user & pass of the account from a exchange and don't remember its name/address?

36 character identifier? Seems like you might have used the blockchain.info wallet, as they use an identifier that I believe is 36 character. Try your login combo there. Can't be a private key as those are longer than 36 character, and I don't think it's a public key. Does the identifier have dashes (-)?

Darkstar,

Yes the identifier has dashes in it. Thanks for the help and any additional info would be great.

Glad I could help  Cheesy

If you aren't selling instantly/planning to get more Bitcoin I'd suggest moving the coins into a wallet that you control such as Electrum or Bitcoin Core if you don't mind syncing for better security. People have lost funds before due to blockchain.info bugs.

This transaction and event only goes to show that Bitcoin is not a scam. And blockchain.info wallet is a trustworthy wallet. It was    4 to 5 years ago that this 0.01 Bitcoin was remembered to be placed right there. And well the blockchain and everybody else in the Bitcoin community including the miners made sure that this amount of Bitcoin was right there from the start. Back then it must have been worth maybe around 1 to 5 dollars. Now because of all the fake news shenanigans it is now worth fifty dollars. Maybe in a couple of months it will be worth 100 dollars That was indeed a treasure hunt of a lifetime in the world of bitcoin.

What you are saying is right but what if his wallet was hacked or got bugged then what would you tell about blockchain.info wallet as web wallet problem. That is why it is more safer side to keep your bitcoins in hardware or desktop wallet like electrum, where you are fully in control of the wallet and its private keys.

Congratulation to the OP of finding his bitcoins which were held long ago.

Hey Everyone,
I appreciate all the feedback.  As you can probably tell I am new to cryptos and all the ideas and suggestions help.  I am a novice stock market investor, but want to get involved in cryptos.  My preliminary research into Bitcoin and Ethererum is not only encouraging, but has seriously restored my faith in humanity...really.  The people who developed these systems are true humanitarians.  Furthermore, the positive feedback here on this forum, I think reveals that the nature of cryptos, beyond the mechanics of currencies, is going to take me a little while longer to fundamentally understand.  Kudos, we are rooting for the cryptos.

Aren't the guys here one big, helpful community? And welcome to Bitcoin! It's refreshing to see that newcomers find their initial information on crypto to be encouraging. I doubt many, including myself, will agree that the developers of these ideas are all true humanitarians, but I do recall being inspired by some of my early readings from those like Andreas M. Antonopoulos (you should read his books, quite easily available online) which for me were great introductions by way of insightful snapshots taken from his lectures.

Enjoy your journey!
