HKCoin is a decentralised, anonymous peer-to-peer cryptocurrency initially designed for use in Hong Kong. By focusing development on and encouraging adoption within Hong Kong, one of the world's leading international financial centres, HKCoin will root an ecosystem and kick-start a virtuous cycle from which it grows worldwide. HKCoin's goal is to be useful in the real-world, not a speculative asset.

Funds raised by HKCoin's distribution will be contributed to the HKCoin Foundation, which will distribute grants by consensus to promote the growth of the HKCoin ecosystem. The HKCoin Foundation will ensure innovative projects and proposals receive appropriate funding, and in turn provide an ever-growing set of features for HKCoin. This will create a virtuous cycle where value is created for all.
The initial geographical focus of HKCoin to Hong Kong will help a strong and healthy ecosystem quickly develop. This will mean HKCoin is in practice much more accessible and readily available than existing Cryptocurrencies. HKCoin will be exchangeable throughout Hong Kong at businesses (e.g Currency Exchanges, 7-11, etc.), with individuals (e.g at designated meeting points, computer centres, etc.), and online.

Totex is a smart-contract peer-to-peer betting platform, initially for horse-racing, of which HKCoin will be the exclusive coin. Via the HKCoin blockchain, it provides a provably fair and transparent betting market for all. It will focus on the Hong Kong horse-racing market, challenging the monopolistic operator which currently has an annual turnover of ~$15 Billion USD.
Totex Tumble is a planned HKCoin mixing service that will randomly reward users with HKCoins received in commision by Totex.

DISTRIBUTIONParticipating in the HKCoin distribution by contributing to the development of HKCoin is a high-risk, high-reward opportunity.
HKCoin will have a capped distribution target and is seeking a relatively modest amount of funding. 100% of this funding will be held by the HKCoin Foundation.
The initial and future developers of HKCoin will be compensated through the small percentage of HKCoins that are not being distributed. As the value of HKCoin grows, the small percentage will be sufficient to cover current and future development costs.
After the distribution, the only way to acquire HKCoin will be through transacting. Because HKCoin has a fixed supply, as its useage and popularity grows, the value of each HKCoin will grow.
One of the projects guaranteed to use HKCoin in the future – Totex - is set to challenge the monopolistic and inefficient incumbent betting operator in Hong Kong. Totex is entering a previously closed market of which the 2016/17 season-long turnover alone was over 14 billion US Dollars. If Totex is able to capture a small segment of this market, the value of HKCoin will be significantly higher than the distribution price.
There will be a capped pre-sale with minimum and maximum contribution amounts. Whilst we recognise that holding a pre-sale ahead of the distribution conflicts with our intention of a wide and fair distribution, the team have decided to allow a limited pre-sale to safeguard as early as possibility the viability of the project. This decision was very difficult for many reasons, but we believe it is ultimately the best approach.

TEAMAll identity is political. We are an anonymous team of diverse views and talents. We think we are probably like ‘Satoshi Nakomoto’: we like building things. We are engineers and coders, not politicians or lawyers. We like to avoid dealing with politics and the media as far as possible. Maintaining our anonymity is essential for this.
Furthermore, all individuals are, by their nature, a centralised point of failure. We want our work to outlive us.
What we hope to build together is bigger than any individual – so we are leaving ourselves out of it.

Why is the project's main language English?Because all members of our team understand English, and English is the common international language.
What purpose does HKCoin serve, what makes this worthwhile? Successful currencies are about community, governance and politics as much as technical developments. As explained in this paper, we believe that due to its focus on a geographically concentrated area, HKCoin will serve some functions better than existing cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum. HKCoin can and will adopt technological developments from other projects as the need arises.
TECHNICAL STANDARDSHKCoin will initially utilise the Ethereum blockchain and conform to ERC-20 standards.

If this situation occurs, the HKCoin Foundation may, if there is consensus clearly demonstrated among the majority of HKCoin holders, migrate HKCoin tokens to an alternative platform. In any event, further HKCoins will never be issued.
