hi everyone

I am new here so I thought I would say hello

I mined 220 bitcoins back when it was all just a cool idea that seemed like it wouldn't last... I sold them all after the big crash, now I am kicking myself!

I recently setup a rig for a friend with a 7970 and its mining at just under 700kh/s ... so now I have the bug again and want to get back into mining.

At the end of July I will be able to afford to build myself a nice rig

I am looking at 4 x 7970's (if thats possible in machine) for litecoin and other scrypt mining
can anyone give advice on what cards to get, what I can overclock the easiest, and what remains most stable and keeps the lowest temps

any advice will be greatly appropriated.

Kind regards

p.s. when can I post in other forums?

Let me know if you want to pickup some 7950s - I'm not interested in litecoin and am in the process of selling all my extra video cards. I only have 2x7950s left (they're only 5 week old). I found it a bit odd that all my lesser cards sold but nobody even made offers on the 7950s.

"Graphics Cards (GPU) – $1,200 to $1,600 I use four of the Sapphire Radeon HD 7970 at $400/ea or four of the Sapphire Radeon 7950 at $320/ea in each rig. This one with a stock cooler works also, and can be had for only $280 (after mail in rebate). One of the Amazon reviews for the $280 card, shows specific settings for Litecoin mining which is helpful. To answer the 7970 (~$420) vs 7950 (~$320) question, basically, the 7970 gets roughly 100-150 more Mh/s or Kh/s than the 7950 for higher hashing density per rig (see bitcoin mining hardware comparison and litecoin mining hardware comparison). I couldn’t decide either and ended up buying both types for my rigs. Either card will work great in this mining rig build."

Welcome.
Hello back and a wave to everyone who said hello!

JimCGSavings:
hi there

superb advice and tutorial!
thank you!

I can afford to go for the 7970 rather than use 7950's, so I will probably try to get the highest hash out of my machine as possible!

My plan is , if it pays and starts to make money, I will make another rig by Christmas, thinking of building a new rig every 4 months (if the first is successfully) until I making a livable wage

and if it all fails, ill have some amazing gaming pc's!

Regards, Burnt

If it makes you feel any better... I mined for awhile when bitcoins were worth 2 cents. Looked at my power consumption and thought 'forget it'... and deleted the wallet. Man I've been missing those few thousand coins recently =P
