Hello, I am fairly new to this and new to the forum.  I posted once over in the miner section, I think that is the wrong area for this post.  So I have a problem, and I don't what else to do except ask for help on a public forum full of VERY smart people Smiley

I will give you my details so there isn't a bunch of unnecessary questions needed to pass back and forth... As in I will lay it all out and explain in full.

I used coinbase to get BTC today, and then made a transfer to one of my desktop wallets and that was successful.  That transfer was to Electrum to be specific, and it always takes a while coming from coinbase.

Once I had the coins, I then transferred them again to another address where I save a small amount of every purchase I make.  It was only 20 dollars or so in BTC we are talking about here.

So, when I sent from Electrum I set the fee slider all the way to 150% (thinking ok, this will help) I have been reading about fees, I still am figuring it out.  But it is stuck now for hours, it never has been stuck this long so I'm wondering why, and what I can do to make this transaction complete.

Thanks and sorry, yes I am a n00b I guess.

that is for the transaction I am posting about.

You had send it with a very low fee.

I accelerated it for you here in the ViaBtc transaction accelerator. I got a message, Acceleration succeeded so you should receive a confirmation within the next hour.

Next time slide the Fee slider at least to the medium in Electrum wallet so your transaction won't be stuck for long.

Confirmed now here

Thank you so much!  I see it going now!  Wow... I feel so stupid.  If I had known about this before I would have saved my self long days of waiting for large amounts of coins lol.... I have put my self though hell for sure.

So, how should I set up Electrum?  What type of fees can I use on a general basis for most transfers?  0-200 dollars sometimes a little more.

Hope you can help, thanks again this community is fantastic.  Loving it here.

If you don't want to manually calculate fees and would like the best chance at quick confirmation, you should simply set Electrum to use "Dynamic Fees" (Tools -> Preferences -> Fees, and then tick the "Use Dynamic Fees" box)... then on the "Send" tab, slide the fee slider all the way to the right.

This will likely end up with relatively "expensive" fees, but it means your transactions will generally use a fee rate that is consistent with quick confirmation times in the current network environment at the time of sending.

Otherwise, if you're looking to try to "save" coins on fees, you will need to either slide the slider a step or two to the left and accept some delay in confirmation and/or calculate your fees manually using resources like https://bitcoinfees.21.co/ and https://btc.com/stats/unconfirmed-tx and https://blockchain.info/charts/mempool-count to judge how "busy" the network is and what the current fee rates being used are.

Your final option is to use one of the free transaction accelerators like ViaBTC or confirmtx.com and pray for the best Wink

NOTE: the amount of coins you are sending has no bearing on fees... $1 dollar or $1million dollars, the network doesn't really care... it is all about the data size of the transaction in bytes!

You see that is the thing; I did select Dynamic Fees and I also slid the bar all the way to the right which is max (150%) ... I don't understand why this time it took the longest it has ever taken and was stuck for hours.  I'm lost   Undecided

Interesting... I can only theorise that you sent the transaction just as the number of transactions in the mempool started to spike along with an increase in fees... sometimes it is just a question of "bad timing"™...

The only real solution to that is to mark all your transactions as "RBF" (replace-by-fee)... This would allow you to increase the fee if the transaction is unconfirmed for a while to try and get it confirmed. Electrum offers this functionality. I use "Propose Replace-By-Fee" = "Always"... I can't think of any reason NOT to mark a transaction as RBF.

Can't help without a TXID... otherwise, you get the standard "you probably sent with low fee, try a transaction accelerator" reply Tongue
