I've had more than a few 'Newbie' sellers off the Marketplace that claim to do Escrow , but want payment of shipping fees upfront.

They are scams, as these dbags don't mind making up new accounts and scamming a few people out of small BTC with no recourse, thinking they are getting a deal.

BEWARE people.

Rules & Suggestions for picking out scams :
No Escrow = SCAM
Escrow, but pay for shipping upfront = SCAM

When dealing with a member for escrow, double and triple check their username and trust feedback.
Check their profile which will show if they have recently changed their passwords. If YES, be careful!

Also, the old Bait and Switch.
They claim to have on hand item for shipment, yet after dealing, turns out they are for 'pre-order' or future delivery date.
Only a moron would buy something with a future delivery date knowing the difficulty increases and possibility of a total SCAM.

Word about the Trust system :
Lately I've seen it act 'funny' by not properly showing positive feedback, so bear that in mind.
Negative feedback sometimes could just be an accused scammer trying to 'get even' by leaving some BS feedback.. (Like in my trust feedback)

Used and trusted Escrow members off this forum I have used and would use again :
Philipma1957
OgNasty

*I will update this with usefull suggestions and info throughout my membership.*

I think this posts should be sticky on the page so everyone can see the latest trend that unscrupulous individual are bent on exploiting just to rip someone off his hard earned resources without any recourse to conscience, morality or even karma.

But unfortunately some people will still fall for it despite the several warnings on the forum and even something like this. I have come to realise that majority of the people selling around here are just newbies account, that alone is enough as a flag for anybody to not only be careful when dealing but be extra careful as new skills are being churned out every time to scam.

Be wary of bitcointalk user Min3rking.  He PM'd me asking if I was still in the market to purchase some antminers.  Talked with him on Skype and he wouldn't do escrow with a bitcointalk member at first, then he said he would if I paid shipping first.

If you have evidence of this, then you should probably open a scam accusation website because of this as its then everybody can see him or probably get tagged so that others who probably might not see this thread will know and reference will be made to it as well.

I am happy that this thread has actually helped someone from losing money that the only saving grace would have been lost by virtue of posts. One thing at the back of any trader, ANY CONDITIONAL ESCROW IS A SCAM BE WARNED

Yeah I'm glad for this thread.  I deleted and blocked him on Skype so I'm not quite sure how to pull up the conversation log.  But if someone has an idea how to do that, I will post the conversation.

I found a tool to get the history on skype.

Here is a screenshot of our skype conversation:  http://prntscr.com/gz2van

Here is a screenshot of the PM's he sent me on bitcointalk:  http://prntscr.com/gz2w1o

Here are his previous posts on bitcointalk:  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1211064;sa=showPosts.  Notice that he says he has antminers available for Nov/Dec batch in his posts, while in his Skype conversation with me he says that he has them in hand already in China.

Please feel free to post this information where you see fit so that people don't fall for this trick.

I believe those users should be reported in the scam section with their usernames so people should be aware of what they are doing

Also be careful of people pretending to use forum escrow only for them to make a fake email account with a similar name to the forum user name.  Make sure when you arrange escrow it is with the real forum trusted escrow agent.

**EDITED Original Post for more suggestions**

Let's see if we can inform people of the cons and scams going on in this forum and maybe police it ourselves to weed out the dbags. Cheesy

Maybe if there is enough good info within we can have the Mods Sticky it.

Please do not post scam accusations in here though. That belongs in the Scam Section : (Link : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=83.0)

Any input and suggestions are welcome though and I'll add it to the main, 1st post.

I just got this pm

[quote.......]
Hi Philip,

This guy willywonkaa scammed me of 0.328 bitcoin attempting to sell me an Antminer S9.  He claims to have done escrow with you in the past.  Is that true?

I spoke to him on the phone yesterday and he put on a good show and seemed legit, so I sent and sent him 0.328 BTC without using escrow.  That was the last I heard from him.  He has been a member here since July and has a post count of 100.  Here's his S9 sales thread:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2237923.msg22574859#msg22574859

If you have any information about this sleazebag you can pass on, it would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

....

Accept Escrow WITH shipping and we'll deal... Otherwise it still sounds like a shipping fee scam.

wtf?

dude ask phillip that i accept escrow, and was working on a deal with escrow with him and another member.

and the deal was never done  this is a fast talking guy.

but I can not tag him as a scammer  since the person that sent the pm to me  did not  put it in willywonkaaa thread

so I don't know if  the guy that sent the pm is lying or if willywonkaaa is lying  or if they are the same person.

While a few pm's were exchanged the deal died.  let me find pm's

Hello,

We have come to a deal for the sale of an s9 miner and wanted to use you in order to facilitate this transaction.
[/quote]

okay fees are 1.5% and 0.001 btc of tx fees.

so a deal for

0.4000 btc is

0.4000 btc to seller for item
0.0060 btc 1.5% my fee
0.0010 btc for tx fees

buyer gives me his btc refund address
seller gives me his btc payment address

buyer sends the proper btc to an address I give.

looks like

 willywonkaaa is the seller
stugots2         is the buyer

once I get funds from the buyer
i tell the seller to ship gear
seller ships he gives tracking to me and the buyer
when buyer gets gear he has a day to test and approve
if he like it I release funds to seller
if there is an issue he can return for refund. so the first day is important.
I hold funds until return is done.

seller should insure and pack well maybe get a signature.
copy the serial number  let me know it.

so send me the refund address  for buyer.
and the payment address  for seller.

Once I have the btc address for  buyer and seller I can give the escrow address .

do not send me any funds until  I give the escrow address out.

I also need to know the sales amount in btc so I can  charge my 1.5% fee.

No worries.  I did it to show what happens if you don’t use escrow . I can’t help or even post that someone scammed.

At this point  do not send to anyone that offers escrow and then asks you not to do escrow.

It does not matter if a guy did two or three sales with escrow once that seller looks for no escrow it becomes a red flag.

Document your purchases on threads and on pms.

And do not send shipping without escrow holding it.

I agree mostly.

I have myself though done deals with no escrow as a buyer and a seller with no problems. Only dealt with people that were hero or legendary and who have NOT changed their passwords recently as a buyer, and as a seller the reverse.

Wish the trade system could be edited by a moderator, to remove the negative feedback left by scammers who do it just out of spite though.
