Maybe I'm naive...but, the CIA can't release anything about Bitcoin? Surely there's plenty that is no secret to anybody...like notes from Gavin's presentation.

I want a clearance lol No you don't it's a pain in the ass. You even have to fill out forms to travel abroad. I assume the fact(?) that you may not travel wherever you want to might be more of an issue than to have to tell it to your boss. Heard Cuba is nice

I suppose they don't know more than bitcoin than us Their documents are at most copy-paste of this forum, or the source codes of the bitcoin clients

You are correct in that the vast majority (if not all) of whatever info they have collected on Bitcoin is publicly available.
How it works, source code, exchange volumes, nodes, major players, any known persons-of-interest.

I doubt that there are many things you would be able to get from the CIA that would be unclassified.
At the very least it would be Unclassified FOUO (For official use only). Which is akin to a corporate document that is only allowed to be viewed by people within that corporation. Just the mere fact that the CIA took some news story on Bitcoin and sent that story on makes it FOUO because the knowledge that they are looking into such information is not for outside eyes.
The term "can neither confirm nor deny" is supposed to be used for just about anything when it comes to information about what may or may not be going on in your facility.

It's not "poking the bear." The government isn't out to get us; I'm sure they would have done more to try and prevent Bitcoin trading if they were.

Perhaps the FBI would be better to ask? I have one out with them, too, from last summer. They said I should be getting it this month. I started the one with the CIA last month, so they were a lot faster.

It's not "poking the bear." The government isn't out to get us; I'm sure they would have done more to try and prevent Bitcoin trading if they were. You must be young because you're quite naive.

Alright, what makes you think that the government is out to shut down Bitcoin? I don't want conjecture, I want a source or a quote.

Alright, what makes you think that the government is out to shut down Bitcoin? I don't want conjecture, I want a source or a quote. The government is some 22 million people. Some of them may like bitcoins, some may not. The different parts often don't know each other. To think that "the government" acts as a single entity, that is as naive as thinking that bitcoin acts as a single entity.

Considering that the CIA did invite Gavin for a presentation says something.
Has anyone considered that Bitcoin is an inside job? The CIA is learning from it's developers and leaves it alone, the government is forming regulatory bodies for Bitcoin, The NSA probably built it themselves and the only people without clearance are the FBI because, well they're the FBI. Just think of the Silly things the FBI has said about it," people may use it for funding terrorism! yes, they most definitely will, but not to worry, we have their blockchain address."
