Are you a University Student? (You don't have to be!) Would you advertise BTC?

Since no one person would really benefit from a massive marketing campaign for bitcoins, I believe the only way knowledge of it will spread is via urban, grassroots marketing. And considering BTC is decentralized, P2P, etc, it only makes sense that the way to advertise them is by relying on the enthusiasm of believers of bitcoin.

I mention universities because they are highly-concentrated areas of intellectual young-people-which is sort of the archetypal bitcoiner. However, advertising anywhere will attract attention.

I think the only "rule" that should be in place for advertising Bitcoins is that there is no defacing of anything (example: graffiti), or engaging in any sort of advertising that would cast a negative picture of bitcoins.

Other than that, anything goes. I have posted countless pages on bulletin boards of my university that contain nothing but a QR code (they were all printed on highlighter-green paper). I figured if people saw them enough times, they would become curious and scan the code with their phones. Some QRs led to bitcoin.org, to this forum, to casascius.com, to other Bitcoin-related sites, and even some Instawallet (when it existed) accounts with a small balance in them.

These are just examples. Be creative. Why advertise bitcoins? Its pretty simple-the more people that know of them, the larger the demand, increasing the value of our coins. Plus, I believe in bitcoin as more than just a currency-its a potential solution to economic issues that exist today and will persist in the future.

If every member of this forum told one new person about bitcoins every day, that would be pretty damn good.

I'll paint an orange Bitcoin logo on my black motorbike. It'll start conversations and spread the knowledge of Bitcoin. It might not look too bad either

I agree with advertising at universities, they are a very good spot to spread word about something. You could use the fact that it's a good investment opportunity to at least get attention. Then hit them with all the awesome facts about Bitcoins. I'd do it if not for the fact that I'm pretty awkward and not a great public speaker, so I normally just bring it up when I'm with small groups at uni or with friends.

I am in university but the Bulletin Boards can only be accessed by submitting the posters to the Registrar for vetting first.   I don't see how I can promote in the university itself.

Well, before some our lectures, we occasionally have people talk about overseas opportunities for a minute or two. If you can talk in front of big crowds, that get everyone's attention

We also have a "market day" every week or two where people can set up stalls in designated areas. You could set up an information booth with paper wallets etc. and things to buy with Bitcoins.

Such advertising might be a good idea however it's effective when it's practised by proffesionals, people who have immense knowledge in Bitcoin because most of my time when I talk about bitcoin, my friends or aquiantances don't really care about it because it's either too complex for them or the think it's some sort of scam.

I agree with you on these points. If you really want to sell something, you have to be quick-witted and thorough with your answers. To do this with Bitcoin, you have to have had a lot of experience with the various areas that Bitcoin is involved in. This would include trading, speculation, technology behind it, potential future's that exist for it and money others. All of this you could get from being on the forums for a while. Being a people-person helps as well
