Bitcoin is easy to use. Bitcoin been around for a while and it's much older than any of the cryptocurrencies that you mentioned in this thread. |

Thanks for ur answer btcjoin14 !:) As u might see I'm quite new in this crypto business. Obviously bitcoin is more commonly known than any other currency. Do you think the other currencies like ripple are gonna be as big as bitcoin one of these days?

Bitcoin is a must-have number 1 cryptocoin for all. After that, one can get into other top
coins.

It's way more stable than most other coins and can be used in a lot of places (most coins can't be used anywhere outside of exchanges). Being less volatile also means that it's less like to to x2 - x10 any time soon, but it's a solid investment right now (or well, right now it might be a bit more expensive than usual due to the fork coming up).
I seriously doubt any of the other coins will ever be as big as Bitcoin, but time will tell I guess. EDIT: Well I guess that if China goes and assigns a "national cryptocurrency" or something that one will likely explode and could compete directly. I don't think anything else could come close otherwise.

Because some coins have different functions. Bitcoin in theory is a means of payment. However it is expensive to pay with Bitcoin and very slow. So that’s why other currencies, like Dash, might be better.
There are also tokens that are not means as a means of payment but other purposes, like Ethereum

Because Bitcoin alone has 2/3 of all cryptomarket capitalization! In the mainstream nobody care about altcoin. The pnly cryptocurrency people know is bitcoin. Because of that, Bitcoin will always be the leader!

Bitcoin has been there for long time and is perceived as the #1 cryptocurrency to preserve wealth. LTC and DASH grant a better user experience, yes, but how many other coins can be created with that charateristic? Heaps, and that's why no matter how many bitcoin cash, bitcoin gold, and so on Bitcoin will always be KING. |

Because its the big daddy cryptocurrency been around since day 1 and probably will be the last coin standing.
Helps that its value increasing dramatically year upon year.

Right now it is because bitcoin is more available, easy to use, and being implemented in the real world. Over time that will change, but for now bitcoin seems to rule.

Bitcoin is much more profitable because the price is about to go up due to demand. There is only a short time for people to get a full Bitcoin for this price. |

If you prefer to use other crypto-currency there is nothing bad in that, but Bitcoin is well known already and accepted, so if you want to pay with Ripple or Dash you actually can't do it, only after exchanging on Bitcoin or other popular crypto such as Etherum or Litecoin.
I think if you chose other crypto-currency, but not Bitcoin, it is going to be better for whole community. Other crypto-currency will become more known and the demand for it will grow, add to that they will become not so weak competitors to Bitcoin which is also going to be good as to them as to Bitcoin itself.

Right now Bitcoin and Ethereum have a strangle hold because everything is based off them. When new people enter crypto they will always have to go through btc or eth in order to buy other altcoin. Until this changes, they will most likely have the highest market values and least volatile change in price, in comparison to cryptocurrencies.

I guess what everyone above said.. but alt coins are always good to hold also.
I guess its true that bitcoin is the #1 coin to hold or perserve wealth. But i myself hold alot of alt coins also, its good to diversify. I made alot of profit by holding alt coins.
So do your due diligence, you should watch the market and see when is a good time to buy in and when is a good time to sell or trade. If you have that locked down, you should see gains from bitcoin or alt coins.

The main features of that coins:
-Bitcoin is more popular, it is and it will be number 1 of crypto for nearest fututre, in some places you wil be able to pay/use bitcoin soon, everyone see its value
-How about Ripple and Dash? Very interesting coing with good techniall specifikations, now only speculations that could be used in banking(fintech etc.) or that coins are more usefull in daily transactions.
All things I have found in many posts in past months.

Bitcoin is popular and high just because of it's legacy being the first cryptocurrency and the first we are used to.
And it is introduced to most layman people as a good investment option. Who know nothing about the tech but are in for investment.

Ripple is certainly making waves (no pun intended) but Bitcoin reigns supreme in the cryptoverse! However, when you come across articles like this one, https://news.bitcoin.com/bernanke-eventually-governments-will-take-any-action-they-need-to-prevent-bitcoin/, about Ben Bernanke (former Federal Reserve Chairman) talking about Bitcoin not being "a real transactional currency" while praising the Ripple movement, you would think Bitcoin is going obsolete or about to take a backseat to some of these other up & coming coins. In my opinion, Bitcoin has and always will be the gold standard, so to speak, of crypto currency so you can never go wrong with holding Bitcoin as it is more likely to hold its value than any other coin. |

Bitcoin has the first mover advantage and by far the largest user adoption, this is what makes it more stable and valuable than any other of the thousands of cryptocurrencies which have appeared after it. However, from the technological point there are far better coins than Bitcoin out there. I think it is just a matter of time when evolution will take its course and some other better structured currency will take the stage and Bitcoin will start to fade.
