That's a control unit of 36-bit IBM 704 mainframe. 1950's, vacuum tubes... It could run a miner theoretically.

You should add some GNU/Linux options to the poll, BAMT (heavily modified debian) is quite popular.

Since I'm not even a part time miner so I use my standard Windows 7 equiped computer whenever I decide to mine some coin.

I've experimented with Linux in general, and I use Unix servers at work. For most daily tasks, Windows is more than functional for me. Since my PC is also my gaming rig when I'm not mining, Windows is almost a necessity. =)

Is there some particular advantage to mining on Linux versus Windows?

I've mined on CentOS, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows 7 x64/x86, MacOS 10.6.8, Windows Xp x64/x86, Windows Server 2003 x64/x86

MacOS 10.6.8 - poor OpenCL
CentOS - no voltage control(?)
Windows Server 2003 - problems with OpenCL installation
Windows Server 2008 - OpenCL must be installed manually + setx DISPLAY ":0" for headless - takes a lot of HDD space ~30GB

I'd go for USB *nix(BAMT f.e.) if I'd be certain that I could change voltage either in OS or in BIOS.

Arch Linux, on the Raspberry Pi very low power consumption and runs with ASICs using CGMiner with no issues at all.

I use MSI Afterburner to underclock the GPU memory below the official limits. Until I can figure out how to accomplish that with Linux, I'm stuck with Windows.

I didn't feel like switching operating systems on my main rig (running Ubuntu 12.10), so I'm running Windows 7 inside a VM using Xen and VGA passthrough.

The Pi, is getting more popular now because of the amount it costs and the new USB ASIC BLOCK ERUPTERS. Although, using the PI requires programming knowledge.
Although it doesn't matter what you use with USB ASIC BLOCK ERUPTERS. Another great OS would be Linux, hands down.
