You have a coinbase account !! so, you can buy Bitcoin and Ethereum easily. For the newbie he can use the exchanges but he must be careful because he don't have experience for that and he don't fall victim to scammers.
My advice for newbie is : the best source for learn  is your experience.

For a complete Newbie I'd have to say stick with Coinbase, when any of my friends ask about buying them I point them in that direction. It's an easy entry point and the app is pretty easy to get up and running, once they'er familiar you can then look into other options like LocalBitcoins/Coinfloor

Ill keep it simple for the most basic beginner.

BTC is king of the hill for crypto currencies.
ETH is king of the hill in terms of blockchain apps/ technologies
The potential for both going into 2020, could be BIGGER THAN BEN HUR.
The first rule about investing is never put all your eggs in the same basket.
Invest in both with a 50/50 split i feel.
This might make you big profits in 6–7 years.

REMEMBER : This is not investment advice, just for educational purposes. Always do your own research first or seek the advice of a professional.

Both are and crptocurrency as a whole is extremely volatile.
As a noob you are likely to lose the shirt off you back and have your skin flayed.
It can be a fast path to quick riches but given that 85% of traders don't make this trading thing work. There is an extremely high probability that you will fail and fail fast.
Good luck

I think for newbie it seems the most secure and comfortable you should buy bitcoin because only bitcoin can provide a very definite advantage.

I think, that the best option is Localbitcoins, but there you can buy only Bitcoin.

Coinbase is fine, but the limit if you just want to use your credit/debit card is so low..... to just sign up and buy...

Localbitcoins--->  Just forget it, Best case scenario, you have to go make a cash deposit into someones bank account and upload a deposit slip with a paragraph written on it, all for about 7% markup.....

-  Then withdrawal those coins for another fee,

I seriously suggest Coinmama....  You signup, get verified in like 30 minutes if its during business hours, and you can buy with your debit or credit card like up to $10,000/month, and the fee is just 5%.....  (which is high, and I wouldn't recommend if you literally were buying $10,000....  but for a small amount, fuck LBC or Pax, Coinbase is good, prob the best, (its just the limits in the beginning is a small issue)...

So I say Coinmama....

I am buying and selling bitcoin via Localbitcoin.com and this is the best way for buy bitcoin because all worldwide peoples can use this platform also they get sellers rating and feedback so their is no problem in deal also we can compare different sellers price. we need to do National bank transfer and then deal completed, first we need to verify on localbitcoin, via driving licence or ID.
