Wil Ethereum surpass Bitcoin in the long term?

Yes, as more and more successful applications will be built on the Ethereum platform (currently the majority of developers in crypto are working on it). Moreover with the switch to Proof of Stake next year ETH will reward investors as well (yearly inflation capped at 3-4%, plus 5-7% of interest if you stake your ETH).

I dont think so. We can't deny it that ethereum is a good choice in terms of altcoin. It has a good platform and ICO, and actually it already has a good value in the market of currency. But still, I dont think its enough to surpass bitcoin. And in fact the value of ETH is just depending on the bitcoin. That's why they are called it as an "alternative coin".

I dont think Ethereum will surpass Bitcoin in the long term. Well it depends on far is long term. But for now Bitcoin is way to up for Ethereum to catch up. The only downside i think Bitcoin has is its delay in trading with other crypto's.

Nope not at all ETH itself is buggy and has many vulnerability and it is forking almost everyday how can this coin compete against bitcoin when the price value itself and the market capitalization is far growned and has unlimited potential to into becoming higher in every year. ETH is still having a hard time proving it's worth while bitcoin already surpassed $6000 which means the demand for bitcoin is becoming higher and more people are starting to adapt and recognize it. Bitcoin is even one of most use payment methods in both online and offline.

Just like what you have said. BTC is the main cryptocurrency, as long BTC rises there's no way or chance it could be exceeded by ETH for now. Its just that I don't really see that thing will happen for few more years.

I'm a supporter of ETH and if you will observe the market, the price of it just go w/ the flow of BTC.

If the developers could improve ETH more and the supporters of ETH continue to arise, then we'll have a debate. Again, I really don't see that happening up to this date and in future years.

No I don't think so. I think both of them will rise, and presently ETH is undervalued, but I don't see it ever overtaking. I think the tech is strong and it might have more real-world/business uses (I see it working with existing banking), but I don't think it can ever surpass the value of BTC...at least that is without a major major crash and the banning of BTC or something.

That is a fair point. Ethereum is obviously better than bitcoin in terms of opportunities it provides to users. Smart contracts are now a must for currencies. Eth is also better in terms of transaction speed and fee. Nevertheless, ethereum also has its big down which is security problem as well as lack of popularity. New people first hear about bitcoin and a lot of them don't go further at all. This is also a factor that might be a great obstacle on eth's way to the throne.

No doubt that Etherium Coin has the better technology in his coin and also a old coin in which new new chnage in the technology always happen to make the coin better and more better for the use .
But still here we will use the word father is father and king is king , Here I am saying so because we can understand well that how the bitcoin is better for us .
Here we can see that if we will transfer the Etherium coin from one adress to the exchange then there will be minimum limit of deposit .
But if we will see in the bitcoin then we will find that no limit in the bitcoin , we can even transfer 1 Satoshi from any Wallet to the exchange site .
So here the ease of access of the bitcoin is better and I don't think that any another will be able to replace the bitcoin Because king is king .

I think it will not be able to go beyond bitcoin, but eth will follow bitcoin as time goes by. it is difficult to be able to surpass bitcoin because bitcoin is the ancestor of all coins.

Why does bitcoin not have any alternatives? What function does bitcoin do right now that no other currency does? Nothing, really. It simply has a first mover's advantage. I think eth or whatever currency comes up with the best application will become the most valueable in the future.

what does the surpass mean? does it refer to the market cap, community activity or popularity? one thing i can confirm is that both of these two coins will not stop its development and both are on my portofolio list

Its hard to answer this question. Bitcoin and Ethereum are two different things which can't really be compared.
Bitcoin was the first cryptocurrency and also first introduced the blockchain technology, which created a system not needing trust.
Ethereum built up on that. Its not "just a currency", its a platform for smart contracts, which can execute contracts without the need of a 3rd person.
If ether (currency of ethereum) will surpass bitcoin cant be said for sure. Personally i think ethereum will definetly grow their user base and their adoption.
With ether currently sitting at about 300$ and BTC at ~6000$ i dont think ether will become more worth than BTC in the near (or mid-long) future.
Nevertheless there is a big potential in ETH and it may give bigger profits then BTC if you start investing now. But only time will tell.

There was a coin recently switched to POS, their market crashed, price dropped like a stone. the same will happen to Ξ after switching to POS, also you don't have a hard fork on Bitcoin every week like people are used to jump their girl friends, mistresses and wives every week, fully fledged lol.
Bitcoin will remain the same to the end but looks like Ξ doesn't know what to do.

If the ethereum to outperform the bitcoin I think is quite difficult, very few possibilities. Because we know that bitcoin is the first crypto can be said also mother of other coin or altcoin. Bitcoin will stay on top and ethereum still follow it in the second position. But what should be on beware of bitcoin is a smart contract that is in etherium. That's what bitcoin does not yet have.

Bitcoin is currently very popular with the extremely high value. Compared to Ethereum that has a very far difference will not make Ethereum surpass Bitcoin even take over position of Bitcoin. However Bitcoin will remain first because this currency is the first cryptocurrency in this world. People are more familiar with Bitcoin than Ethereum.

Ethereum to reach current BTC price means $540 billion market cap. Seeing the current trajectory of both crypto and Ethereum as a service, doesnt really seem that unlikely in the long term, lot of years from now.

Beating BTC though? Doesnt seem likely unless some major incident happens.

 It can’t but ethereum may manage to be a good competitor to bitcoin. Im optimistic about ethereum future as it has good fundamentals and might bull run its price next year and it will be a big one that for sure. I’m planning to make hold of it for long term investments.
