I don't think it will surpass it before 5 or 10 years.
In the mind of neophytes, the only crypto currency is Bitcoin. Medias only know Bitcoin.
So when people will really be interested in blockchain and crypto currency, they all will go on Bitcoin, because it's the famous one.
When the whole world will be pluged in with crypto, they will start to check what is around it, and they will discover contracts, services, and the companies will (thay already did) start working on blockchain services and use some concepts, like ethereum or maybe other new ones.
In the same time, Bitcoin will arrive at it cap, and all the coins will be mined, so those coins will take again some value for their rarity.
After some years, when the usefullness of BTC will start to decrease (because nearly all the coins that are currency are currently faster and safer than BTC). Then, maybe, ETH will start to surpass BTC.
In any way, both of them will be surely very high and will take value with time.
Every thing here is, of course, pure hypothesis

Yes mate!
Bitcoin Development Team ain't weaker than Ethereum Team as Bitcoin is open source, as long as you can make sure 51% of miner agree with your idea. You are good to go.
But IMO, Ethereum serves more purpose than just a currency, with the help of smart contracts, alot of things can be done with it

I agree many crypto enthusiast was already using the ethereum blockchain ,I think the more people adapt to it the larger it's value will increase , so right now I am Holding some amount of ethereum and stored it to some secured wallet because I know in no time it could surpass the bitcoin value |

I think this will definitely happen. I expect a lot from Waves, Ethereum and Stratis, and I think these coins promise the future. Bitcoin as a market share of ethereum will soon pass.

Bitcoin will always be the leader for the digital currency network. Ethereum and other assets will serve as the platform alternative to bitcoin. Lot many projects were functioning as well successfully developed on the ethereum Blockchain platform. This might add value to it, but this won't cause a growth to surpass bitcoin in long run. |

In the near future, Ethereum's market volume of 200 billion dollar will pass very comfortably. It may seem impossible, but make sure it is not impossible at this point, but with a simple message everything can begin.

Maybe yes, maybe not. Ethereum has more milestones and plan to develop while bitcoin is now controlled by many different forces. They all want to take the advantage for themselves and refuse to make any improvement without the spliting in the bitcoin chain. That is why we have bitcoin cash and on tomorrow, we will have bitcoin gold. At the middle of November, we will also receive bitcoin2x

Sorry for the bad news but ethereum will never surpass the bitcoin. Ethereum is a great coin and all but it reached its natural limits. I don't expect ethereum to reach 1k any time soon.

Things change so fast that it's hard to predict what things will look like just a year or two in the future. I can see Ethereum becoming the most dominant medium of exchange in the world, and I can see Ethereum being completely supplanted by a blockchain with easier to write, safer contracts. To illustrate, consider the example of Tezos: the whole concept was to develop a blockchain that was similar to but better than Ethereum. That could have been the future of crypto. Now it looks like Tezos is going down in flames. In other words, the future is too difficult to predict. |

Etherium is a pretty awesome coin. And i believe that it has a very big potential to give big profits to all investors that are willing to stay on etherium for the long run and hold. As good as that sounds, i still think bitcoin will remain as the top of the list still even after a few years. It has already proven itself worthy for our trust. So i suggest you stick with bitcoins |

Ethereum is a coin which has alot of potential and is the platform which hosts most of the new projects and ICOs. The team is strong and the project seems very promising but i don't think that ethereum will be able to surpass Bitcoin in the long run as Bitcoin is the master of all cryptocurrencies. It is the most popular crypto and is the most widely accepted crypto available in the market. I don't think that ethereum will be able to surpass Bitcoin as it is nowhere as popular and as stable as Bitcoin. |

As I already wrote in another thread about Bitcoin vs Ethereum - ETH will not surpass BTC, at least in the nearest future!
ETH has a really great potential, a lot of people support ETH and believe in it, lots of projects, companies and even governments are interested in it and it's functionality and possibility... but.. ETH face a lot of obstacles and has a lot of problems to solve before going to the moon.
But nowadays there so many opportunities and ways of development that I think that Buterin will solve out all difficulties and lead his project to real success. No one can say when, but it is a fact that success will come to this coin.

Ethereum is good and sure is coming up with lots of development but I really still do not see how it is going to surpass bitcoin now or in the future. It has its own advantages and it will definitely grow, and as long as it keeps growing, bitcoin keeps growing too. That first movers advantage will always be there for bitcoin, but we surely don't know what happens in future, but to me it seems impossible. |

No never, not any alt will do this.
First of all, anything can happen in crypto world. Right now there is no huge barrier in the way of Bitcoin due to which it is growing at a great pace but future is unpredictable and hence crypto. It is totally possible that people may dump Bitcoin in the future and move to different alt due to some strong reason. Secondly, if Bitcoin stays long in the market, Ethereum can hardly surpass Bitcoin basically because there is limit on supply of Bitcoin but no limit on Ethereum. Moreover, Bitcoin price is comparatively higher than Ethereum but Ethereum growth rate is higher than Bitcoin. Also, there exists a speculation that if Ethereum growth rate goes the same way it is right now, it can also equalize or overtake Bitcoin in future. Lastly, one should quote Bitcoin may be the king of cryptocurrency but Ethereum progress cannot be ignored. |

I think it is likely that ETH will pass BTC in market cap, but perhaps not in importance. For people who are not involved in cryptocurrencies, the only name they know is Bitcoin... and I think it will remain this way for quite a while. |
