is Vertcoin actually worth a longterm investment or are people shilling?

Long hold. Vertcoin has been around since 2014 and has survived over many altcoins for good reason. Similar to Litecoin in many ways with a really active dev team and community. Could be a $20-$40 coin in a few years, but who knows. Vertcoin also has some unique features that Litecoin does not, like an ASIC resistant algo making it hard for a major miner to mine it solely, very much a GPU friendly coin which has many pros.

Vertcoin is different and first of its kind. I'm not here to make guarantees but it's a coin worth holding on if you want to diverse your portfolio.

I personally think people are only shilling. Vertcoin has nothing differentiating it, and after this many years has now meaningfully penetrated the market in any shape or form. If this was a real-world business it would be worth nothing based on how little progress they have made. Yes the price can swing up or down based on whatever pumping its experiencing.

It begs the question how many coins do we need that essentially serve the same purpose? At that point at a popularity contest/marketing. IMO for vertcoin to really make it they need a rebranding both logo and name. I have a feeling it will hit 5$ by end of the year though

I'm sorry but I think Vertcoin is already a sinking ship. Yes, I agree the coin has been in existence for quite some time now, but it didn't enjoy any support from the community. The price is just above $2 now. I think if it has gotten support, if should also be around $50. But sadly it didn't and I doubt that its better for long term hold. I'm not totally sold on this coin, just another one of them in the market that will be used for simply pump and dump by the market manipulators from behind.

this is exactly what I was thinking.  many of these coins seem to be duplicates of others

I am interested in Vertcoin as well. I set up to mine it for a few days a month and just stash the coins and see what happens over the next few years.  Hopeful that the price will continue to slowly climb.  It does look like Litecoin is its competitor and in some aspect Vertcoin is ahead of Litecoin but for some reason it does not see to have as much notoriety at Litecoin and I am not quite sure why.

Vertcoin has been around for a very long time. If it was a coin that was meaningful it would have penetrates the market by now. Personally, I wouldn't even look at it. Let alone put my money in it. That doesn't mean people won't make some money with it but I would be very careful and stay away from it. Its a waste of time.
