so with the seesaw mech. would i make more staking or running a MN at this point?
Theoretically it must generate equal profit. I really did not count, but my impression that MN gives a more profit.

Why do I some times stake 9.99998520 YUP? I am confused as  the MN reward is 5.4 and I normally see stakes of 4.59998520 or similar.

Due the instability of many coins network, we changed amount of nodes from "active" only to all nodes that exist in coins network for the moment. We believe that it will be better than mislead you with temporary spikes of ROIs.

I'm still having significant issues getting my masternode to start.

On my VPS, "masternode debug" returns:
"Not capable masternode: Hot node, waiting for remote activation."

Yet my wallet says the masternode is Enabled and every time I press start alias that it successfully started.

I have various other masternodes for different coins, so know how to set them up, but Yup is proving a pain...

Because you receive Stake + MN reward at the same time
So you can stake and have master node on one single wallet? Trying to understand how master node work and stake work together.

It seems that yup's development is in a stalemate. I hope someone can take over this community, and I see more and more masternode. I believe most people would like it.

Why not? 10k YupCoins will be locking for masternode and other coins will be staking. I use remote MN, but I think that with hot node the same.
