This courageous whistle blower has completely uprooted his life and risked his freedom to expose the illegal NSA wiretapping program.  Let's make a statement that we want to keep honest people here in the US and not chase them away to China or Iceland.  He has currently fled to Hong Kong to avoid 'detainment' and then heavy handed legal tactics which would likely completely destroy his life.

that is a good idea, but it will take more than petitions

it will take actions of the people and not a few OWS hippies living in a park for a few months

when the people are ready to tell 'the man' to shove it, they'll have to take actions in mass, soccer moms and truck drivers, everyone from across the spectrum that is done with tyranny by the government will have to do what they are doing in Turkey , Taksim Square style

an online petition won't cut it man

bread and circuses man, look it up

Great idea but even if it succeeds it wont do much. Look at the other petitions that "succeed" on that website. you get some staffer who writes an absolutely non-committal response and then quotes something that the president previously said about the issue. The whole online petition thing is a joke, If i wanted to know what Obama already said on the matter I would Google it.

Personally, I'm not impressed by him.

Anyone who didn't think the government were monitoring the internet is an naive idiot at best.

Secondly, when the government makes the laws, it gets to decide how it defines those laws, so whatever they do is going to be legal, even if it is immoral. Whistle blowing something immoral is just a matter of opinion. The right thing to do is to resign, respect the contract you signed and earn your living doing something that agrees with your moral values.  Even if it isn't going to lead to a multi million dollar book deal! Wink

The whole, lets do a petition is a pointless waste of energy, and designed to polish the halos of the lazy.

If you really want to make a difference, stop using Facebook, Google, Amazon etc, and make the government work for its information! Wink

Well, if it wasn't obvious enough already, Snowden is now actively courting China.

Quote
Classified US government data shown to the South China Morning Post by whistle-blower Edward Snowden has provided a rare insight into the effectiveness of Washington's top-secret global cyberspying programme.
