According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

A snapshot of the blockchain was taken so if you had any coins at the moment of the snapshot you will be able to claim bitcoingold in a 1 to 1 ratio when the chain goes live.

At this moment you cannot do anything yet as the fork isn't live yet.
